      a good buy

      Having a good mattress is important as you spend a third of your life in it! Well if you are my lazy boyfriend then I am pretty sure it is half of your life, but hey who is counting. I have decided now on to only buy reputable mattresses as the last one we bought from Ikea that was supposed to come with a 25 year life guarantee only lasted two years before it became quite unbearable to lay on! There were springs poking me in my back as I slept and a massive dent in the middle so we kept rolling into each other. It was a very uncomfortable night sleep and I used to always wake up in the night, tossing and turning. We spent absolutely hours in beds shops trying out beds which was funny as the one bed we decided to buy, we did not even try it out and bought it straight from the internet. We had had enough of shopping around, we knew which style of mattress we wanted and so just put pen to paper and got it bought.

      ==Price and availability==

      We bought the mattress from Sainsbury's which is not a shop I go in regularly but I do browse online. It is amazing how many good deals they have on household products and you get lovely bonus nectar points. This mattress was for sale for £349 which a 20% reduction. We were happy with the price as it fitted in the budget of £400 with plenty to spare (with which we treated ourselves to some lovely new bedding.)

      ==Description==

      The mattress we have is double size and standard in dimensions so it will fit any double standard frame. The mattress is very thick with a good layer of foam above and below the spring section. The springs are not circular coiled but spread out across the mattress which helps to evenly distribute weight and helps to relieve the pressure from your back. This type of sprung mattress is clever as you do not feel the springs in the mattress; it is soft and supple with the springs providing the structure and support. The Miracoil® springs don't wobble, collapse or bulge, so they give support across the whole surface of the mattress which in turn allows you a better night sleep even if you are right on the edge. The mattress has a lovely cotton surface that is cushioned and without a bottom sheet it looks well made and luxurious. With a sheet on, it looks flat and despite having the mattress for over 9 months, it looks exactly the same as when we bought it.

      ==In use==

      We decided on a coil spring mattress because I suffer from back ache. I do not like memory foam as I just find that they do not take the pressure off my back and call me old fashioned but I just prefer spring ones. I did quite a lot of research into them as not only do I suffer with a bad back, my boyfriend has a dust allergy. This means that our mattress choice has to accommodate both of us. Memory foam are the best for allergy suffers as they prevent dust and mites getting lodged inside the mattress as there are not gaps in springs to get comfortable in. Despite this, we decided that a spring mattress would suit us better and in order to compensate we bought an anti-allergy mattress protector, which has worked just fine. So far so good.
      The first week of the mattress, unfortunately was not the best for either of us and it took us a while to get used to mattress which is so firm. It really was very uncomfortable and rather than distributing the pressure, it seemed to place more pressure on my shoulders and neck and I woke up very stiff as did my boyfriend. After a week we noticed a remarkable improvement in how we slept. There was no pain and our bodies adjusted to the new shape of the mattress. We in fact, slept much better. We do not roll in the middle and we have our own bed space. I feel like my spine is cushioned while I sleep and I have not woken with any muscular problems since the first week. I sleep really well on the mattress now and I really look forward to climbing in bed and having a good night sleep.

      ==Overall==

      I was disappointed that we had to adjust to the new mattress as we were so excited when it arrived and eager to try it out. On talking to friends though what we experienced is very common and part and parcel of getting a new bed. We are thrilled with the bed now and with the mattress protector we take great care in looking after it. As soon as I get in, I can feel the benefits in the spring system and find it much more relaxing to try and sleep. All the pressure from my back is taken away and I can throw out plenty of zzzzs! I would recommend this mattress, especially if you like firm mattresses as this has the balance just right. Silentnight have done a great job here and I would recommend it to anyone who has occasional back pain.
