A cheap enough price even for a single job

This level is designed for jobs where you need to get posts perfectly vertical. I invested in it when I was building a garden seat, and it proved invaluable, I wouldn't have been able to do the job without it.

The level is basically an L-shaped arrangement of tough, robust plastic - described on the website as high-impact - with a plastic hook on each extremity and supplied with an elastic band. It's around 5 inches long, and the arms are about 3 inches.

The level is positioned on an upright (dependent on the upright being square or at least having one square angle) and held in place by hooking the elastic band over the hooks. This then leaves both hands free to position the post in the concrete to make sure that it is perfectly upright in terms of both left-to-right and front-to-back.

The level has three vials, one on each 'arm' and one on its spine, and each one has clear guide lines printed onto them to be able to easily and clearly line up the bubble in each. Perfect uprightness is achieved when all three have the bubble centrally located.

For £4.98, this is an item that you may well be purchasing for a single job, but without it, the task of alignment becomes a never-ending adjustment exercise - lining up in one direction to find that it has slipped in the other. More expensive, branded versions are available at diy stores, but this B&Q one is well made, feels sturdy and did the job perfectly.
