A light but sturdy pocket spirit level

This small pocket spirit level is one of the few tools in our house which I think of as mine. It is a dinky 23cm in length and is made of a strong bright yellow plastic. I bought it from a cheap homeware shop for £2.50 which is around the price you can get them from online. It actually caught my eye as I went into the shop as it was such a bright colour.

I bought it as I am the one in our house who puts up most of the pictures and photo frames and sometimes shelves, and I am quite fussy about the exact positioning of them, such as being equal distance from other pictures and directly in the centre over a radiator or fireplace. I think that by me being so critical of things being in the correct place that my husband decided to let me 'do it myself'. I will sometimes just knock a nail into the wall if the frame is light but will also use a small drill if the frame is heavy or for shelving, and find that this small spirit level is ideal to make sure that things are level.

It has three separate vials for measuring horizontally, vertically and at 45 degrees which pretty much covers most things you need to measure. It also has a magnetic strip which will attach to any metal surface but I have never used this feature. It is supposed to have accuracy of 1mm per 1M = 0.057¡ in standard position which I am not exactly sure what this means but I assume it means that it is very accurate.

To use it you just need to move it very slightly until the bubble is directly in the middle of the vial which you are using for the particular job. It is quite sensitive in that you only have to move it a fraction for the bubble to move and you do have to keep a steady hand.

I keep this spirit level in the bottom drawer in the kitchen when I am not using is, so that I always know where it is. As it is small and flat it doesn't hardly take up much room and as it is such a bright colour it is easy enough to find. I wouldn't be without this little gadget now as it is accurate and easy to use, and it is light and small enough for me to use easily. It is well worth £2.50 to make my shelves and pictures straight and level and I would recommend it as a lightweight but hard wearing spirit level that anyone can use.

        Begone Wonky Pictures!

Whilst not particularly DIY-inclined myself I have been known to drill a few holes when required, put up shelves when needed and generally tackle basic repair and decorating jobs around the home on the odd occasion so have, over the years, amassed something resembling a tool box. This spirit level from Draper was my latest acquisition, bought primarily to ensure the pictures and photographs I have hanging on my walls at home are straight as nothing irritates me more than a wonky picture frame and whilst it's not the most exciting thing in the world to write a review on I have to admit that it's a very handy piece of kit that has proved itself to be more than useful.

Made by Draper, a recognised name in the DIY/Tool industry the bright yellow plastic-cased spirit level is easy to find when nestled amongst the various screwdrivers, drill bits and spanners that make up my tool box. Bought instore at B&M for a little under £3.00 it's classed as a 'pocket' spirit level given its short length measuring in at only 23cm in length, can be used both on the horizontal and vertical and has a magnetic strip which allows it to hold in position on a metallic surface.

It's a hard wearing piece of kit, I've dropped mine on various occasions with no damage to the outer casing and find it to be reliable in helping me to hang the various pictures I have in my home. The idea behind a spirit level of course is making sure that the bubble in the liquid vial sits centrally and this one from Draper is easy to see and easy to use, I simply hold mine on the outer upper edge of my picture frame and make the necessary adjustments needed to get the bubble into the middle of the vial and once there I know that my pictures are hanging straight.

The pocket spirit level is a handy size, it's not too big that it gets in the way and doesn't take up much room when not in use. For simple DIY related jobs around the home I think it's ideal and for a few quid I don't think I could ask for anything more. It easy to find, use and store away and comes with a guarantee of accuracy from Draper and for me it takes the guess work out of hanging the pictures I have on my walls.

Five stars as a rating from me, thanks for reading my review
