      A tasty enough ham!

I do love wafer thin ham for a quick sandwich of an evening so my Mother always gets me a pack a week in with our weekly shopping. A couple of weeks back she got me this and I was and initially slightly worried that it would be vile, at least when she revealed it only cost about 50p for 12 slices of the stuff! However I took the plunge and ate it and I'm really glad I did!

      The Packaging:

Well the ham comes in a see-through square plastic container and the lid is also plastic and pulls off. Sadly it isn't resealable! On the cover there is a photograph of the ham and I'm told it's Ashfield Deli Mild Cure Ham which is 'Reformed cuts of pork leg meat, cured and cooked with added water' ingredients are listed as is allergy advice, there is a nutritional at a glance chart on there as well as a full nutritional chart in depth, I'm told the ham contains no artificial flavours or colours and that in the pack there are 12 slices, the best before date is clearly stamped on along with the weight of the product which is 137g and contact details for Aldi are given. It's an ok flattish looking pack but like I say once you've pulled back the top cover there is not reseal function so do have some cling film handy or something like that.

      The Ham:

Very, very thin and wafered but although it's thin it doesn't tear as soon as you touch it. It's square and slightly rounded to the corners and is a light pink colour. It has no real smell to it and although this admits to containing water it isn't soggy or dripping wet and once you've used all the ham your not left with a pool of water in the bottom of the carton either.

Taste wise this is actually rather tasty. It's seasoned well, moist and tastes pork well enough. The texture is very smooth and of course this uses reformed meat so it's not fibrous like meat usually is. It tastes nice in a sandwich and I've added slithers of it to pizzas and put it in pasta dishes and it's very versatile indeed. Not one bit greasy and it does possess taste! However this is only 'pretend' ham so I know a few of you will turn your nose up at this lol. Nowt a bad offering though from Aldi once again and it's a very economical buy indeed!

      Allergy Advice:

      Contains: Milk. Gluten free.
Warning: May contain traces of celery
