      A horrible crab paste

My mum brought some of this when she went shopping last week cos she knows I like crab but its so horrible that she ended up giving it to the cat mixed with his dry food and even he didn't like it.

It only cost about 50p for a little jar.

I thought it was too sticky and even put a hole in my bread when i spreaded it. It has a strong smell of fish that put me off even though I usually like the smell of things like this. It is a horrible orange colour and has a bit of an oily feel to it that I didn't like.

I didn't think it tasted very much of crab so I looked at the list of ingredients and found that it also has quite a lot of mackerel in it. I dont like mackerel and as soon as i knew it was there that was all I could taste and i think it's wrong of Asda to make out like this is pure crab paste when really its a mixture of different fish.

It tastes very strong of fish but has a bit of a sweet taste that i didn't like. I tried it on some crackers to see if this would make it taste better but it didn't and this is when mum gave the paste to the cat.

Not to everyone's tastes but give it a go

Now I'm sure a lot of people will be thinking ergh, crab paste? That's disgusting! I'd usually think the same as well - I hate seafood and I only eat the basic fish (cod, tuna, salmon, etc.) but I actually, surprisingly, really love crab paste.

The first time I tried it was when I was younger and I think my grandad probably made me a crab paste sandwich without telling me first what was in it. There's no way I would have gone anywhere near it if he'd have told me it was crab paste! But it tastes really great and now I often have it in my sandwiches.

The Asda crab paste comes in a small 75g glass bottle and it costs only 48p which is good value as it you don't need to use heaps of it as it tastes quite strong so it lasts quite a while. It contains mackerel, cod and brown crab meat so it isn't just made out of crab and it's a healthy sandwich filler. The paste is a red/brown colour and spreads easily onto anything. It has a strong fishy smell and a lovely fish taste. I've never actually tasted crab or anything remotely similar before so I can't compare it to that.

I know it doesn't sound very appetising but, if you like fish, then I'd definitely recommend giving this a try as it makes a great sandwich. Topped with cucumber it makes a perfect sandwich.
