I paid £3.98 for this 180g pack of Jumbo King Prawns but deffo don't think they were worth that because you don't get many even though the tub is quite big, I usually buy the Sainsburys Taste the Difference ones because they're wicked value when they're on BOGOF and they are quite often.
The prawns are very big and because you buy them chilled not frozen they're ready to start munching on as soon as you get home. They've got a nice juicy texture and taste, the flavour is just right but I deffo think the texture of them is a bit tougher than the Sainsburys ones.
I brought these to do a curry with so I ended up having some cold and some hot in the curry sauce. They're proper nice both ways and because the prawns have got a bit of a harder texture they will stand more cooking than Sainsburys prawns without shrinking at all.
I put the veg and curry sauce on for a few mins and added the prawns after for about 3 mins on quite a high heat and that was fine, the prawns were heated through perfect all the way to the middle but the size of them hadn't changed at all. They stayed nice and juicy after they'd been warmed through and the curry flavour went sooooooo nice with the faint taste of prawns. I think the prawns staying big is a good thing because they soaked up the yummy curry sauce and also made the meal look and feel loads more filling than if I'd used smaller prawns.
You get 11 or 12 prawns in the pack and that's not that good because I had 10 in my curry and that was only because I'd already eaten a couple cold!!! I could have easy had the whole pack and with the price of the curry sauce and rice on top I might as well have gone to the curry house and ordered a King Prawn Balti! lol
The prawns are nice but I reckon you're better off to buy the frozen bags because you might have the hassle of defrosting them but you get loads more for your money and the frozen jumbo prawns are just as good as these chilled ones.
Recommended.... on TASTE only, but these are a dear way of doing it!
