Asda Extra Special Sausages
Advantages: Gorgeous range of flavours to choose from
Disadvantages: Make a mess cooking them in a roasting tin
Every week we buy asda extra special sausages, usually in pork and apple or pork and leek, these flavours are our favourite, but they do all different flavours too such as cherry wood smoked, Cumberland, vintage cheddar and caramelised onion chutney, beef, pepper and coriander, chipolata, roquito pepper, Lincolnshire and sweet chilli. There are so many different flavours to choose from!
These are on offer all the time in asda sometimes they are two packs for £5, or sometimes 3 packs for £6. You find you only save about 20p when they are 2 for £5, and about 80p when they are 3 for £6. I don't tend to bother buying them in bulk as you don't save too much, I don't think its worth it. They usually cost around £2.20 a pack.
You get six sausages in a pack but these sausages are very thick, so we usually have 2 each, and that's enough as they are very filling. My boyfriend usually has the other 2 cold chopped up in his salad the next day! They go great with mashed potato and beans, or mashed potato and veg with gravy. I love yorkshire puddings with them as well. These are also great in a toad in the hole, and we love to cut the sausages up and just chuck them in a pan with peppers, onions, tomatoes etc and just make it up as we go along!
We usually cook these in the oven, in a roasting tin for about 30-40 minutes. The only thing is they make such a mess as the fat comes out of the sausages and the roasting tin is so hard to clean afterwards! You can also fry or grill the sausages, but make sure they are cooked thoroughly through the middle, they are very thick and take longer to cook that other cheaper sausages.
We have tried loads of supermarkets own brand products to cut down the shopping bill, but one thing we wont change is meat. We like to try and get all finest meat with the highest meat content. These sausages are roughly 80% meat so that's why we buy them, and wont switch to cheap meat.
These are suitable for freezing, but they usually have about a weeks date on them when you buy them, and we eat them within a week so we don't usually need to freeze them. If you do freeze them you need to defrost them well before you cook them.
I highly recommend these sausages, they are gorgeous, have a high meat content and come in so many different flavours, its too hard to choose what ones to buy!
Summary: Make a gorgeous meal
