Asda Sausage Rolls
Advantages: Look nice, good sized mini sausage rolls
Last night I was settling down to watch Big Brother when my doorbell rang and it was my friend carrying loads of carrier bags and she walked in straight past me. She explained she had been shopping with her mate and picked me up a few reductions as everything was so cheap. I ended up with sausage rolls, batches and custard donuts everywhere lol.
One thing she did pick me up was some sausage rolls as she knows I am rather partial to them. These ones are in a see though plastic flip open tray and you get 9 mini sausage rolls in this offering and we are told on the packaging that they are baked in store! On the bottom of the tray other information lists the ingredients and allergy advice and thats pretty much it, no nutritional chart or contact details for Asda are given. We are not told that they are suitable for home freezing so I assume because they are baked and ready to eat that they are not.
The Sausage Rolls:
Well as I have already pointed out you get nine of them and although called mini they really are not. Sure they are not huge but certainly bigger than bite sized pieces and rather fat too!
In colour they are a golden shade and look a little they are made from puff pastry however what pastry they are actually made from we are not told!
What they are is basically plain tasting sausage rolls. The pastry contains little flavour to me at all and is a little flaky but really, well it doesn't taste of much at all and certainly isn't buttery or seasoned. The inside of each sausage roll is generously filled with a brown coloured sausage meat which is moist and smells like pork and is rather a smooth sausage and contains 21% of pork. Once again though this seriously lacks flavour!
This is a really bland sausage roll and I expected more from a freshly baked instore product! Wheres the salt? Wheres the texture? Bleurgh I really don't like these and I ate two of them gave one to a hamster who also walked straight past it and the rest hit my bin. At £1.19 a tray of 9 I certainly wouldn't purchase them again so thank goodness she only paid 30p for them! lol
Summary: Bland, bland, bland!
