Asda Smartprice Fish Fingers
Advantages: Dirt cheap
Disadvantages: Weird flavour to the fish; Just proper cheap tasting
We buy quite a lot of fish fingers and have tried most of the cheap supermarket ones. Most of them are ok, a couple are brill for the price but these Smart Price ones from Asda are naff! lol
They're majorly thin and when they're cooked if you peel the breadcrumbs off you'll see that the fish is stupidly skinny inside, it's also a rank looking off-white with bits of grey mixed in and doesn't look very nice.
The breadcrumbs haven't got much flavour and the ends go a bit hard in the oven even though they only take about 15 mins to cook, you can't adjust this either because if you turn the oven down to stop the ends going hard the fish doesn't cook properly.
The MINCED WHITE FISH isn't nice, it's dead bland and tastes like it's been sitting in a freezer for years! I'd love to know exactly what fish it is but I've looked everywhere and I can't find out. It goes too firm while it's cooking and doesn't flake at all when you cut into it. There's also a bit of a weird flavour to these fish fingers that comes through about halfway through eating them, I can't think what the taste is but over all I think it's just the taste of "stale".
These fish fingers are 47p for 10 but they're not even worth 7p. Even if I was on a madly low budget I deffo wouldn't buy these again because the rest of the supermarkets also do a cheapo brand of fish fingers for a similar price and even the rubbish ones are better than these!!!
I've eaten them twice out of different boxes because I thought I might have picked up a dodgy box but they was both as bad as each other. The first lot I had with chips and beans and I couldn't even eat the 3 fish fingers I'd put on my plate because I didn't like them, then I had a fish finger butty and the bread made them taste a bit better but I couldn't get out of my head how cheap tasting and crap they were.
Not recommended... EVER!!!
Summary: Forget It, Either Buy Branded Fish Fingers Or Go To Another Supermarket For The Cheapo Ones
