“ Brand: Asda / Type: Meat „
I like my Chicken, and have it now and again for Tea. Although I like to buy a fresh Chicken, boil it and make it into what I want it to be, I also like Chicken in breadcrumbs that you can chuck in the oven and it does all the work for you. I like the Bird's Eye range, but I am fond of Asda's own label as well.
This is found in the freezer section of Asda. They have an American Range, and the Chicken product differ slightly. You get Popcorn Chicken, Drumsticks and these which are just Chicken Breast steaks. A box of 4 costs £1.59, and we have 2 steaks for an evening meal with Chips and some Vegetables.
Size wise the Portions are alright, and 2 just do the job nicely. They are a little bit bigger than a palm size, and quite thick as well. The Chicken Breast is coated in a Southern Fried breadcrumb coating, and although the coating is quite thin, it is quite strong tasting, so you get the slightly smokey, spicy tang of it. Although SOuthern Fried coating is quite similar to KFC's coating, it tastes a little dry-er, so not quite as greasy.
Packaging is alright. They are in a cardboard box, which in my view could have been a little smaller, as there is plenty of room in here, so we could have cut down on packaging - note to Asda! The portions are in a sealed plastic bag, and you will find some of the coating flakes off and this keeps it all in the 1 place.
You cook these from frozen and they take approx 25 minutes on 200oc.
Although Chicken is pretty good for you for healthy eating, these aren't exactly saintly and I would guess it is the coating to blame. Each portion has 184 calories, and 7g of fat, so although the calories aren't horrendous, the fat content isn't good for you. I'm sure once in a while this is alright though.
So, the important part, are they tasty enough? Yes. The Chicken Breast is thick, soft, moist and juicy, The coating is slightly crisp, crummy, and golden and I like the taste of the mixed spices in this.
Pick up a pack for an evening meal.
£1.50 for a pack of 4 chicken grills.
The outer packaging is a basic recyclable box and inside the 4 chicken grills are wrapped in a blue plastic sealed bag.
Personally i do not know why they have wrapped the grills separately inside the box, this just means extra unnecessary packaging which is what supermarkets are supposed to be cutting down on!

I am a big fan of KFC and southern fried chicken as a whole. A whilst this product may not be as nice as the leading brands they are still very tasty.
They are perfect for a number of different meals, the options are endless but these are some of my favourites:
- Chicken grill, mashed potato and vegetables.
- Chicken grill, chips and beans or peas.
- Chicken grill in a burger bun.
- Chicken grill in a tortilla wrap with peppers and onions.
- Chicken grill sliced into a salad.
The calories content of these grills are pretty good so i use them as part of my calorie controlled diet i am on.
The chicken inside is very tender and moist, and the crispy coating has a really unique southern fried taste.
Above all the price is great and it is something that can stay in the freezer to feed a family or a quick and easy meal if you are in a hurry.
Give them a go you wont be disappointed.
The only reason for a lower score is because of the extra unnecessary packaging inside the box.
