Bernard Matthews Chicken Escalopes
Advantages: Good tender chicken breasts in golden breadcrumbs
Disadvantages: We couldn't find any
Having Bought Bernard Matthews Products for years I thought We as a family would try something not previously tried in their range of foods. It was to be the 3 chicken escalopes made from 100% breast meats turn.
What made me buy them?
Simply this ! I was looking for something a little different from the normal foods we buy and found these on the frozen shelf of Morrison's supermarket. The thing that stood out for me was the brightly coloured packaging which is in the background a nice scene of Norfolk. This is mainly sky blues and green with a white cloud or two for added effect. To the front of the package is the plate of escalopes with mash and green beans, looking very appertizing and the usual Bernard Matthews 3 chicken escalopes written on the left hand side under which it states quite clearly that these escalopes are made with 100% breast meat and have no artificial colours or preservatives or flavours.
3 Large escalopes of chicken pretty decent in size enough for my crew at least we had one each. Filling us quite well and we do like our food.
They were coated in breadcrumbs which were a light golden colour and turned honey coloured when cooked.
The meat inside was firm and white and when cooked was succulent and juicy. Tasting of nothing else than the chicken breast. I was glad of that. I do not like the reformed stuff that sometimes passes as real chicken breast.
Taste test was well received by all and everyone agreed that they tasted good and would like them again . Tasting of the chicken they reported to being with a nice crisp coating of breadcrumb. They were lovely.
Each 129g serving when baked in the oven contains
344 calories, 2.6g sugar, 19.5g fat, 2.3g saturates, 1.6g salt.
I suppose some of these are quite high but I did not feel they tasted that salty or that high in fat so found it quite a surprise.
These escalopes do contain Gluten and Milk, and may contain traces of bone although they state that they have taken care not to leave any in.
Main ingredients are as follows:-
chicken 42%, Breadcrumbs, Water, Vegetable Oil, Wheatfour, Maize flour, Milk protein, Natural Flavouring, Salt, Tapioca starch, Dextrose, Lemon juice, Raising Agents, E450, E500, Herb extract.
the E450 and E500 are the main ingredients of baking powder which is used in the coating to make it light and crispy.
Which in this case it did.
To cook place in oven for 20 mins at 220c or 425f or gas 7 on a flat baking sheet in preheated oven.
or alternatively you can grill them under a medium heated grill for around 10 - 12 minutes until golden.
Either way is good.
They also have a phone line for queries on these products and others in their range which is 0800413640 or you can find them on the net on www.bernardmatthews.com.
Bernard Matthews team has gone to a lot of trouble to inform us of the minutest details and I felt I should do the same by relaying it on to you so you can make an informed choice of your own regarding this product.
All I know is that we will be buying them again they not only tasted good they looked good and were well received with my family and that for me is the biggest challenge anyone trying to feed them can have. So well done again Bernard you certainly know your business.
