Advantages: Smooth chicken, crunchy breadcrumds and delicate sauce.
Disadvantages: Slight oozing of the sauce at the end of cooking time.
For dinner this evening I tried, for the first time, Bernard Matthews ham and cheese chicken escalopes. I bought them about 2 weeks ago in Asda for the bargain price of 2 packs of 2 escalopes for £3.00. I put them in the freezer and forgot about them until today.
I cooked them from frozen for 20 minutes on 220 degrees whilst I prepared the rest of my meal. I checked on them after the 20 minutes and they looked golden brown and smelled delicious, one thing that did happen though was the ham and cheese filling spilled out of the breadcrumbs a bit and oozed onto the baking tray.
Obviously the main proof is in the pudding as they say and so I tucked in along with my husband. I was impressed with the texture of the breadcrumbs, they were crunchy and crispy and did not have that annoying soft, sticky layer you find on so many breaded chicken products.
The chicken was smooth and tasted of only chicken, and the ham and cheese sauce also had a very delicate and delicious flavour.
The escalopes are low in saturated fat and sugar and have a medium fat and salt content (in accordance with government foodlabelling system) and per escalope (approx. 140g) there are roughly 360 calories.
Summary: A good value delicious meal.
