Advantages: Great fiery taste
Disadvantages: Can be difficult to open the pack once cooked
I buy these quite regularly to have in the freezer at home as it makes a delicious meal with barely any preparation or thought gone into it. It is a frozen product but when you take them out of the freezer to cook in the oven they only take 15 mins to cook which is a great time in order to get a nice meal out of something. I eat them with either linguine or noodles, very quick, no fuss...perfect. Plus it is absolutely delicious.
The product comes in a sturdy cardboard box which shows a picture of the bag of prawns inside on the cover alongside a whole chilli. The purpose of the chilli is to represent the flavour of the prawns inside; sweet chilli. Inside the cardboard box are 2 separate packets of frozen prawns, 1 bag per person. Each packet of prawns is a silver plastic wrapper with a clear strip on one side so that you can see right through to the prawns. The prawns at this stage are raw and grey and there are small frozen little balls of sweet chilli butter in the pack as well.
After 15 minutes in the oven they are thoroughly cooked and will change from their original grey colour to a lovely pink colour. It can be quite tricky opening the packet with all the hot runny sauce in there so I would definitely recommend an adult opens it (for this reason I have marked the product a 4 and not a 5). Once you've opened it you can pour the whole lot of prawns and sauce onto your plate or bowl (on top of linguine or something like that if you're me!). It smells so spicy and sweet.
There are plenty of prawns in each packet, they are generous with the amount they put in and there is enough sauce to accompany them. The prawns taste so lovely and fresh -even though they were frozen to begin with. The sauce is very fiery with the chillis in it but absolutely gorgeous, just sweet enough but with a big kick to it. You need to be a fan of spicy chilli foods to enjoy this meal.
A great quick meal to make and you don't need any fresh ingredients in the fridge to be able to make it, just add pasta from the cupboard.
This costs £3.99 in Tescos which isn't that cheap but is worth it in my opinion. They are available in other supermarkets as well but are not always stocked in each one. There are 290 calories and 22g of fat in each packet.
Summary: Really nice tasting prawns in a sweet chilli sauce. Simply delicious!
