I love sardines in tomato sauce but I don't like picking the bones out. I'm not one of those people who can merrily mash the bones into the sardines and eat them so in the past I've spent a good 15 minutes carefully pulling out all the bones before I eat the sardines which not only takes time but is messy. When I first saw these John West Boneless Sardines I thought it was brilliant that they'd finally realised we don't like bones!
Sardines are rich in omega 3 which is a healthy fat. Omega 3 is good for the skin, brain and eyes, has been found to offer some protection against Alzheimers Disease, reduces heart disease, blood clots, lowers blood pressure, helps the body absorb vitamins A, D, E and K, helps with IBS and other inflammatory bowel conditions, is useful for those with arthritis, asthma, eczema and psoriasis and also helps fight allergies. So as you can see omega 3 is something everyone should ensure they have plenty of in their diet.
The sardines come in a 95g tin which when drained apparently is 62g but I don't know who would want to drain off the tomato sauce if they'd bought them in this as they taste so much better in tomato sauce than without! Each can has 156 calories and 9.5g of fat which seems like a high rate of fat but of course as it's the healthy kind of fat that your body needs this is perfectly acceptable.
I always eat sardines in tomato sauce on toast, spread the contents on a slice of toast and warm it slightly under the grill then sprinkle with black pepper. You could also eat these in a salad or on a jacket potato though, whatever takes your fancy.
The sardines are packed tightly in the tin so there's plenty in there and the tomato sauce is very tasty and rich. As for bones, as promised there are none, I've had lots of tins of these boneless sardines and have yet to find a single bone. Anyone who eats sardines will know they have a very strong taste of fish and this goes perfectly with the tomato to create a healthy, tasty snack.
This product is available in most supermarkets and costs about 75-80p for a tin which is also cheap as well as healthy. Unless you don't like sardines this boneless version is excellent. Thoroughly recommended for a healthy, tasty, bone-free snack!
Summary: If you like sardines these are excellent
