Advantages: Erm....I'll get back to you on that one lol

Disadvantages: Read review the space here isn't enough for an overview lol

Today after the gym I was starving, not in a good mood and I wanted something naughty to eat. I say naughty cos on gym days I try really hard to eat healthily so I don't feel like I undo all my hard work but I wanted pastry and when I want something that's it, I have to have it! lol.

I spotted these in the refrigerator section in Morrisons but versions in store do include frozen and freshly baked ones too. These one's are 59p per individual pie or any 2 of any pies (chicken & mushroom, minced beef & onion, steak and steak & kidney) are all part of the deal! One I got was this one and usually it's my favourite flavour....notice I say usually lol, there's always an exception to that rule and this seriously is!

The Packaging:

Clear and white blue plastic oblong shaped wrapper (you can see most of the pie lid through) and on the front in white and blue writing I'm told it is Morrisons Chicken & Mushroom Pie 'A puff pastry pie filled with British chicken in a creamy sauce' and then there is Union Jack displayed along with an at a glance nutritional chart, I'm told I can cook it in the oven, that it's freezable, the best before date is clearly stamped on and the weight is stated which in this case is 150g. On the back of the wrapper other information given includes ingredients and allergy advice being listed, I'm told how to cook it (from chilled 20-22 minutes or from frozen 50-55 minutes) in the oven, a full nutritional chart is given and contact details for Morrisons are listed. The pie comes in a foil tray and the whole of the packaging is informative enough, easy to open and stuff like that.

The Pie:

Well I was instantly attracted to the pie in the shop when I picked it up to see what it was. It was a decent weight and looked like a hefty portion for one person and I like a decent sized pie! It's very deep, sort of square in shape (rounded to the corners) and of smooth, thick light cream coloured pasty with the lid being rougher in texture, slightly golden in colour and sort of latticed in appearance.

When I took it out of the wrapper it never fell apart on me and I decided to eat it cold cos I was hungry (you can eat this hot or cold by the way).

Now maybe this review would read differently warm/hot but I found this awful. The pastry was stodgy and hard to digest. It's meant to be puff but it was damp, smooth and slightly soggy. It didn't have alot of taste to it at all and I certainly couldn't taste butter in it or seasoning and it was all just a bit thick for my liking. However all in all the pastry is marvelous in comparison for what is passed off as filling! Yuk!!!!!!.....

It was tasteless. It was mainly white sauce that was gloopy with a powdery feel in the mouth and not alot of it but loads in comparison to chicken and mushrooms. I pulled off the lid to see what I was eating as it had no aroma and no flavour to it really and it just was not even a quarter full in the pie, I spotted two small slices of mushroom in there and no chicken at all! Not one bit! It was horrible. Not so mush horrid on taste because like I say it never had a lot of flavour but the textures were just awful.

Verdict:

Economy pie at it's worst and I did try another flavour (I will do a review on it) that was just as bad! I don't like these pies at all and Morrisons would need to pay me to eat these again!
