“ Brand: Sainsbury's / Type: Meat „
Somewhere where I won't economise and go for the budget stuff is meat. And bacon is the best of all meats, so naturally I want the best possible bacon. I saw this and just had to try it. Firstly, it looks like 2 out of the 3 reviews below were done before the Taste the Difference range was relaunched. Since then, the slices have got much thicker; I found myself satisfied with one rasher per sandwich, whereas normally I'd have 2 or even 3! I cook mine on a George Foreman grill, and a lot less fat dripped off than I expected. It was done in a matter of minutes, and I didn't experience anywhere near as much shrinkage as the reviewer below me did; each rasher was still relatively large, and most importantly, still quite thick. The taste is sublime; but as it's bacon, you already know that. But this is by far some of the best bacon I've ever tasted; the smoked flavour is divine, and much more noticeable than in the standard range, or any rival supermarket offering. Taste wise, I rank it equal first with the Simon Howie bacon, which is also highly recommended. At around £3-4, it's at the dearer end, like the Simon Howie stuff which is similarly priced. But the advantage here is you can usually mix and match the TTD bacon with the TTD sausages (which again are sublime) on a 2 for £5 offer. You get 6 rashers in a pack, which is less than the regular, cheaper Sainsbury's bacon, but the great taste is worth the extra cost.
I Buy my bacon from butcher and forgot why i didnt buy from suermarket until our lass bought me some of sainsburys taste the difference Bacon. Cooked 3 pieces but threw the rest away, the bacon oozed out loads of white goo and shrunk, very off putting. Do not buy is my advice. Overpriced for what it is but niceley packaged.
This bacon is absolutely delicious. Not what you'd call a thick cut bacon but a medium, it has a gorgeous oak smoked flavour that intensifies the more it is cooked. There is not a lot of fat so most of the weight is actually bacon. It's easy to cook and unlike some cheaper cuts there is not a high water percentage so it crisps up as required. If frying there is no need to add more than a drop of oil to the pan. For a change from bacon and eggs, I have cut this into strips and and dry fried them until crispy, then sprinkled them on top of ciabatta with an egg, rocket or spinach, cherry tomatoes and olive oil. Absolutely delicious. The down side to this is the packaging. Very hard to get into, like many packets these days! It definitely needs a knife or scissors so don't waste your time wrestling with it, just have the right tools ready and you'll be fine! It is more expensive than a lot of other Sainsbury's packs but worth the money for the flavour.
For around eight years I did not eat any meat products so now that I am firmly back on the meat bandwagon it is nice to be able to try lots of new things and have the odd grilled/baked fry up is something that I love doing now. I like having a little of everything and I like to try something new most weekends, at least then if I buy something I don't particular end up liking there are lots of other yummy products on my plate to keep my tastebuds occupied. I was prompted to buy this bacon while in Sainsburys because it was on a special offer of 2 for £4 so I managed to purchase this and a lovely packet of Parmesan & Pork Sausages (review to follow). This seemed like a reasonable price considering the quality of the product and how nice the whole thing looked. This packet of bacon rashers contains 8 rashers and this is fine for making me a few breakfasts of a bacon style sandwich with their tomato or brown sauce or serving me and my other half for a breakfast each - yum! These rashers can be grilled or fried in the usual way and I simply spray mine with a 1 calorie oil spray and then place them under the grill for a few minutes on each side. The rashers do shrink a little whilst cooking but I would expect this from normal bacon so it's really no different! The smell that comes from them is delicious and when I bite in to my sandwich the rashers are lovely and crisp and have a gorgeous smoky bacon flavour to them. They are lovely and meaty and have a fantastic taste to them, they taste like a great quality meat product and there is really nothing I don't like about these rashers, they are now a firm favourite on the top of the essential ultimate breakfast list. Each rasher contains 79 calories, 4.5g fat, 1.48g of salt so these rashers should definitely be enjoyed in moderation but now and again I just say sod it and overindulge myself and my fiance! These rashes get a firm 5/5 from me as the taste is delicious, they crisp up very well and they have just a small amount of fat that will crisp up very well without burning the bacon. Most of the Taste The Difference bacons from Sainsburys seem to be on special offer lately and this one can currently be found reduced from it's normal price of £3.19 to £2.12 (1/3 off) and I will be buying a couple more packets of this for the freezer as it really doesn't make my 'fry ups' feel that little bit more luxurious.
