“ Brand: Starfish / Type: Seafood „
I love scampi but it's stupidly expensive, I mean you pay £4.00 - £5.00 a bag and when you get it all home you can easy eat the whole bag in one go because there's never as much in there as you think there's going to be. Some of the cheapo scampi is ok like Tesco Value but the Tesco by me hasn't had any of that in for a few weeks so when I was in there today I picked up a bag of this Starfish Breaded Scampi because it's on special offer at £1.00 a bag.
The bag is only 150g and my fave Youngs scampi is 250g but that's still a massive saving. You get about 10 good sized pieces of scampi in a bag and for me that's about right with a salad but if I was having a jacket potato or chips with it then I probably wouldn't have so much..... or maybe I would because it's yummy!
The scampi is big and juicy, it's got a wickedly fresh flavour and the fish itself tastes just as good as any of the more expensive scampi brands. The breadcrumbs are ok, they're not majorly thick on the scampi to make it look bigger but are a bit wet and stodgy on the bottom so I peeled that bit off. On the top it's nice and crunchy though and has got a faint taste so that it doesn't take over from the flavour of the scampi.
I put salt and vinegar on mine to bring the flavour out a bit, I always put that on scampi though and also a bit of lemon juice because for me scampi is a bit boring without it. I had some tartare sauce on the plate but I didn't even bother with that in the end because the scampi is so yummy without it!
I think this is wicked scampi and I'm not bothered about the bag being smaller because at £1.00 a bag I can just go and buy more. What pisses me off about scampi is that my personal shopping budget is usually about £50.00 and if you think that a bag of Youngs scampi is £4.99 that's a 10th of my shopping money gone on something that isn't even a proper filling meal!!! This is more reasonable!
