      Wicked For A Change

Over Xmas we ate a few packs of these ready cooked bbq cocktail sausages from Tesco, there was an open pack in the fridge through most of Xmas because we are all pickers and they're ideal for a munch as you're passing through the kitchen.

You get 35 small cooked sausages for around £1.75 and they're quite often on special offer where it's cheaper if you buy 2 packs.

I think they're great. They are golden brown and ready to eat, I love them cold but you can also warm them up. I don't see the point of that to be honest but I reckon they'd go wicked dropped into a casserole. They've got a nice meaty flavour, obviously not as meaty as eating a nice freshly cooked sausage but very good for a convenience food like this. These sausages aren't all gristly like some I got from Morrisons last year, they was so full of fat that they made me feel sick after 2!

These are quite chewy and I don't think they taste like bbq flavouring at all, I reckon the bbq in the name means they've been cooked to have the taste of sausages cooked on the bbq not that they've got any sort of bbq sauce flavour. They have actually got a nice smokey flavour that you don't notice as you're eating but after you get that charcoaly taste in your mouth like when you have a well done sausage off the bbq.

We put some on cocktail sticks on Xmas night and it was loads easier that cooking our own sausages, all I had to do was poke them while they was still in the plastic box and lift them out to go on the plate! We put a chutney dip on the side and I thought the flavour of the sausage went wicked with the fruity tomatoey taste of the chutney. The sausages aren't dry but the dip helped me chew them a bit easier and I'm glad it's like that instead of being full of the feel of grease like the Morrisons ones were.

Everyone liked them except for my dad who is a bit weird when it comes to sausage. I pick them straight out of the fridge and also pass my 2 year old sister one now and again for a snack, she loves them because they're her kinda size and she can sit and munch on one for a change from bananas and crackers.

      Great for parties

We had some friends around recently and with a new baby I was not up to cooking so rather than making things from scratch we shopped in Tesco and picked up lots of nibbles and bits and pieces that were ready to eat. These cocktail sausages are perfect for people in a similar situation.

They look really tasty and not fatty at all. They are perfectly cooked and golden brown in colour. You can see the sausage meat almost bursting out at each end - they look really delicious. What is more, they are a perfect size for picking up and eating while you are chatting and holding a drink in one hand.

We put some in a bowl with cocktail sticks. They looked so good. I know it all seems a bit old-fashioned and basic but sometimes you cannot beat that. We did more fussy things as well but in fact it was the sausages that went down best and were used up quickest. A few people asked if wee had bought them from a local butcher because they were so tasty!

The centre is very smooth and a little spicy. I think the slightly spicy aspect is stronger because it is cold.

At 25 calories per sausage they are pretty high in calories but so are all sausages.

      A pack costs £1.65

        Perfect for sausages on sticks.

My daughter decided she would have quite enough cooking to do on the morning of my granddaughters birthday party so she saved time and energy by buying ready cooked cocktail sausages to put on the sticks.

She bought two packs of 35 pork sausages from Tesco priced at £1.65 a pack, they are currently on offer at two packs for £3. They are 62% pork, which although not great is roughly the meat content I would expect for these, with the rest of the sausage being made up of rusk and pork fat and other ingredients that do not bear thinking about.

They look well cooked and are a deep brown colour, much nicer looking than the pale ready cooked sausages I bought from Sainsbury's at Christmas. They are roughly an inch long and look plump with a lovely wrinkly skin, not unlike myself!

By the time I arrived at the party they were already on their sticks, but I pinched one before the guests arrived and was surprised at how tasty it was. These sausages are BBQ flavoured but it's very subtle which meant I could taste the flavour of the pork sausage itself, there is a nice flavour of BBQ seasoning but it tends to come through as an aftertaste more than anything else. This is good in my opinion because I find BBQ flavoured food is often overpowering and over done, this was perfect for my tastes and didn't detract from the taste of sausage.

The sausages have a nice texture for precooked ones, they are very similar to cooking sausages yourself and allowing them to go cold. They have a nice consistency which is easy for me to bite through and they go good and mushy while I am chewing, constantly releasing the herby sausage flavour. They are not gristly or fatty like other precooked sausages I've eaten and are not greasy to touch in the slightest, they don't taste greasy either which is obviously good. Everyone at the party enjoyed them anyway, children and adults alike.

Each sausage contains approximately 25 calories and 1.6g of fat, I say approximately because nutritional information is given per 100g and each sausage weighs about 9g and I've had to work this out myself! Not bad if you just have a couple but these sausages are very moreish and you could easily eat more than you originally planned!
