Advantages: Easy to spread, looks nice and smooth

Disadvantages: Bitter taste, not meaty enough

I love pate whether it be on crackers or on toast and its usually a staple in my fridge weekly. However I do realise how fattening it can be and so when I spotted this reduced fat variety I thought it had to be worth a go!

The Packaging:

The 175g of pate comes in a white oblong plastic tub with a silver foil that goes over the pate to keep it fresh and peels off with ease. On the lid of the tub there is a photograph of the pate and I am told that it is Tesco 'Smooth' Reduced Fat Brussels Pate and that it contains 50% less fat than standard Tesco Brussel Pate and has reduced saturates, the size is stated (as I've listed already), there is an at a glance nutritional chart shown and the best before date is clearly stated. On the bottom of the tub other information given includes ingredients and allergy advice, storage details are listed as is a full nutritional value chart and contact details for Tesco are given. Nice enough tub and it is informative enough.

The Pate:

Well what this is, is pork fat, pork liver and pork pate. It is a smooth and pink in colour and looks a bit slimy really.

This is a moist pate, well seasoned but for me lacks on flavour as well as fat. It has a light meaty taste to it but nothing really with a slight bitter undertone to it. It spreads with ease but for me it is a bit slimy with a slight weird tinny taste when consumed that I can't rid myself of after eating only a small amount.

Verdict:

A slimy offering with not a lot of flavour sums up this pate. Sure it may be a bit better for you and your hips...granted but I'd rather have something a bit more tasty in my tummy! Not for me this one it just didn't tick all the required boxes....sadly!
