A decent tasting southern fried chicken

A while ago I was strolling around my local Tesco looking for something for the kids to eat . I know that they love chicken and chicken related meals. They have always like chicken Dippers and Southern fried chicken. I spotted this 30 Piece Bumper chicken take-out. The box weighs 900g and its big. When I looked at this I instantly thought to myself... this is worth buying. The cost is £5.00. I thought about this and it seemed to me that it would be well worth trying out for a fiver.

On the front of the box is a picture of a bucket with various chicken pieces coming out from the top and its surrounded by other chicken pieces. Tesco describe it as 'a selection of succulent chicken drumsticks, breast strips and pops in a southern fried style breadcrumb coating. Ideal for feasting with family or friends, whatever the occasion'.

I have given this to my children on 3 occasions now and I still have a few pieces of chicken left in the freezer. I tried a little of it. The taste of all of the coating is slightly spicy and really is very similar to other types of southern fried coating; it tastes good. The pops are ideal for younger kids, as many kids like this sort of thing and they associate it with well known chicken fast food outlets.

The only thing I am not all that keen on ( because it is my own personal preference) is chicken drumsticks. You get quite a few chicken drumsticks in the pack. My children will eat chicken drumsticks but do not Like them as much as the strips or chicken pops/nuggets etc. There are a bit too many drumsticks for my liking/. What it is, is that we all just prefer the chicken breast.

      Cooking
      ********

The chicken takes differing amounts of time to cook. The drumsticks take about 35 minutes, the strips take about 20 minutes and the pops take about 15 minutes. This will depend on the hotness of your oven. It is essential that the chicken comes out 'piping hot'. I would fully agree with this, especially important is to ensure the drumsticks are thoroughly cooked in regard to their size. I noticed that the drumsticks took slightly longer than recommended. However, this is common sense really.

      *Drumsticks*

      Each drumstick contains 176 kcals

      *Pops*

      Each 45g serving contains115 kcals

      *Strips*

There are 150 kcals in 2 chicken strips

This is a good tasting southern fried chicken selection; ideal for any occassion.
