“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Meat - Frozen „
When it comes to chicken burgers they are not something I eat very often at all but from time to time I do get a bit of a fancy on for them in a bun with salad and dripping with mayo!
Staying with my mate in a caravan (who is Vegetarian) I had been missing meat due to partaking in a meat free diet along with her but when I spotted these at 85p a bag for 8 burgers I decided to treat myself to them thinking oh well id I don't like them I'm sure one of her four dogs won't turn their noses up at them!
Blue and white plastic bag with a photograph of the burgers on the front and I'm told that they are Tesco Value '8' Breaded Chicken Burgers 'Chopped and shaped chicken with textured wheat protein and added water, coated in crispy breadcrumbs' then I'm told that I can oven cook them or grill them, the weight is stated which is 456g and I'm given the best before date. Other information given on the back of the bag includes cooking instructions and storage advice, a full nutritional chart is shown, ingredients and allergy advice are given and contact details for Tesco's are given. Cheap looking bag this is and very obviously from a bargain range of products but it's all informative enough to be fair to it.
The Burgers Themselves:
Well I counted 8 burgers of course and they were bought frozen and I got them out of the freezer to cook them! They are small rounds, not all that thick and a pale cream in colour. I put mine in the oven for about 20 minutes (You can also grill them in about 8-10 minutes if preferred) and they came out light golden brownish and I was left to dress them up how I desired before eating them!
Taste wise these were actually ok. The outer crumbs were thinnish but evenly coated and not messy when handled. The chicken inside wasn't too mushy though not grainy like chicken breast of course, it was moist but could do with a little more seasoning to bring the flavours out in the burger.
All in all though not bad at all. I mean they are not the tastiest burgers in the world but not at all bad for the price. On a meal, these would be far too bland and dull for me however in a bun with salad and stuff I found them to be a nice enough offering!
Nutritional Information Per Burger:
Only available in Tesco stores.
I brought a bag of these chicken burgers to try because even though I know they're proper rubbish food I LOVE a cheap chicken burger sometimes! lol I've had the same thing from Sainsburys Basics and Asda ones as well and being as we'd got some nice buns in yesterday I decided to have one with some bbq sauce and salad.
I ended up doing everyone the same except for my mum who won't eat stuff like this. I grilled them because chicken burgers always dry up for me in the oven and I think it's easier to keep an eye on them under the grill. They took about 15 mins on quite a low heat and they didn't drip loads of fat either.
The burgers are pretty tasty! They haven't gone dry and the chicken is actually quite moist, there's a bit of a greasy taste to them but that comes off the breadcrumbs and it's a shame because even though that doesn't ruin the burger I reckon it would taste loads nicer without this greasy flavour.
You might want to know that there is only 32% chicken in these burgers so they're not going to be wicked quality. You expect that with this kind of thing though so it didn't put me off, the flavour is delish and to me the burgers don't taste like they're packed with rubbish or water. It's obvious that you KNOW you're not eating a proper piece of chicken but like I said you expect it when you're eating cheap ready made food like this.
I'm not mad struck on the breadcrumbs because that's where the greasy taste comes from, I think that helps keep the chicken moist though so it's something you've got to put up with! It's not a mega strong oily flavour anyway but it takes away from the yummy taste of the breadcrumbs a bit and that's a shame because the breadcrumbs have gone crispy and have actually got a lovely flavour.
The burger was nice in the bun and both my sisters and my dad enjoyed theirs as well. 8 of these chicken burgers only costs £1.00 and I think that's a bargain because they're not tiny like some of the cheapo chicken burgers and even though they're not massive either I think the burgers are filling.
Recommended... not massively high quality but yummy anyway!!!
