Advantages: Quality of the tuna, price, dolphin friendly
Disadvantages: No ring pull on the tin for opening
At home we all love tuna and so I tend to make sure we always have a couple of tins in the cupboard. We have tried many a brand from expensive fancy tuna through to cheap value versions like this Tesco one.
Currently priced at £0.49 for a 185g tin you really can't go wrong, as far as we are concerned tuna is all the same, expensive or not.
I always buy tuna chunks in brine as opposed to in oil, as I find it is a lot less messy when opening a tin. This value tuna comes in a small standard metal tin with their Tesco red, blue and white value label wrapped around its centre. The one slight annoyance of mine with this product, is that it doesn't have a ring pull to open on the lid so you need to use a traditional tin opener to get into it. When I'm at home of course this isn't a problem, but if I'm at work wanting to make a sandwich it can be a little troublesome if I cannot find a tin opener!
Inside the can, there is a good quantity of tuna with it pretty much full to the lid. There is enough brine to keep the tuna chunks moist and to not dry out, but not too much that the tuna is swilling in the stuff. You can easily drain the brine from the tin either using a colander/strainer or simply using the lid of the tin.
Compared to some of the more expensive brands that sell tuna, the chunks in this value one are not quite so big but for the money and quality who would complain. We tend to use this tuna for sandwiches mixing it with mayonnaise, but it could just as easily be used in many a recipe as it is so versatile. After draining off the brine, I find that this tin makes two good quantity tuna sandwiches.
The taste of the tuna is really good and tastes of good quality. Being in chunks you get more tuna to taste in a bite than if it was flaked. It is also dolphin friendly so you know that it is totally free from any dolphin meat.

Overall I have been really impressed with this value tuna and will continue to stick with this - I mean why pay almost double the price for something that tastes exactly the same. This is a really healthy product that can be eaten with anything and in most recipes. I always used to avoid the value products in shops thinking they would be of poor quality, but I have been totally converted with this product.
