Weight Watchers Tomato and Basil Chicken
Advantages: Quick and Easy to cook. Low in points
Disadvantages: Looks horrible when frozen, taste much nicer when cooked in oven
OK, so we have booked a holiday to Cyprus and I am panicking. Need to loose 2 Stone to be at my goal for my 30th Birthday and to get into my Bikini just afterwards, so I joined Weight Watchers Online last month. I have done WW before and really did well, but slowly the weight has crept back on - well not all of it but enough! I find that I can get into my Propoints allowance alright but feel I need more of a proper lunch to get me through the day so I decided to try some of the WW meals. I figured these would be nice and easily to do at work in the microwave and would be more filling than my usual diet lunch.
So I popped off to the shops to stock up on enough meals to get me through the week. They were priced at our local Morrison's between £1.79 and £2.28. The Heinz Tomato and Basil Chicken were priced at £1.98 and for this you get 330g and was worth 7 Propoints.
The meal comes in a plastic microwavable dish which is inside a cardboard box. The box is purple in colour with an image of the meal on the top. It has the Weight Watchers by Heinz logo in Blue writing on a white background. On the sides of the box and the back it gives you all you nutritional value, ingredients and cooking instructions. The dish the meal is served in is black plastic dish with a clear film on the top. You have to pierce this film before microwaving. As frozen the meal looks unappetising and lumpy so I wasn't expecting a miracle after I had cooked it!
To cook you can either pop it in the oven on a tray after removing the film lid and cook on Gas Mark 6 for 45 minutes or microwave it. In both instances you are told to cook from frozen for best results. To Microwave the meal you simply pierce the film lid and cook on full power (based on an 800W microwave) for 8 minutes, letting it stand for 1 minute. Although cooking in the Microwave is a lot quicker and more convenient I have found the meals do taste nicer if done in the oven, but at work I don't have the option of an oven. For both cooking options when the time is up and you get the meal out you notice that it does really smell great and look nice!
The Tomato and Basil Chicken is mini chicken fillets marinated in tomato and basil sauce and comes with potato wedges. The chicken is light and not overdone and stays moist as it cooks in the sauce, considering this is a ready meal the chicken pieces are big and thick. You can also really taste the basil in the tomato marinade. The wedges are pretty good for a ready meal as well. They are a good size and are fluffy inside. The 8 minutes cooking time fro the microwave is plenty to cook the meal thoroughly but not overcook it. The meal is full of flavour and taste and not at all bland. It is very filling and kept me going from midday till 7 o clock when we had some tea, it didn't look very much in the dish but it really does fill you up!
As it is WW it is low in calories and an ideal way of helping you keep on track with you propoints as it is only 7 propoints! The meal has just 254 calories and 6.5g fat for the 330g
Energy -kJ 1070 kJ
- kcal (Calories) 254 kcal
(of which sugars) (8.0g)
(of which saturates) (1.7g)
Salt equivalent 1.9g
I have since tried quite a few of the WW meals and I have to say this remains as one of my favourites, purely for it being full or flavour and taste! These meals have helped me stay track with my points and kept me from feeling hungry, they really are well worth trying!
Summary: Filling, low points meal!
