Disadvantages: Not great looking when you try to serve it out of its container
First off I must point out that I have never seen and cant find the light version of this meal. Whether they dropped the light part in the title (as this only contains 324 calories anyway per meal) or what I'm not sure but to be clear this is simply Young's Salmon Crumble and I have contacted the Dooyoo team and they told me to pop the review here so here I am!
I love fish and at the moment am trying to moderate my food to a bit more healthy. I love salmon as well so when I saw this meal at only a pound a box I decided to try it as I knew I was saving about 50p on the usual price (sold in Asda and all good supermarkets).
The box this comes in is light blue and peach coloured with a cut out section to the front of it so you can see part of your meal through it and there is a photograph on there shown too of the crumble and we are told that it is Young's 'Est. 1805' Salmon Crumble 'Chunky pieces of salmon fillets in a butter sauce topped with mashed potato and a crumble topping' and that it contains 324 calories only per meal and is responsibly sourced. On the back of the box other information listed includes ingredients and allergy advice, there is an a glance nutritional chart and a full one given as well as being told a bit about the product, the weight is stated which is 300g, cooking instructions are listed and finally contact details for the manufacturer are given. The meal comes in a white cardboard tray of good size and with a see-through plastic cover over the top of it and all in its good enough, high quality and informative packaging.
The Meal Itself:
To cook this is simple and you have a couple of options to do so. You can oven cook it in the oven in about 40 minutes or microwave it (from frozen) in about 8 and a half minutes and I did the latter option with my meal and it cooked through really well in that time and looked nice enough too though i did eat it out of the provided tray.
What you get is plenty of soft and creamy, firm mashed potato that covers the salmon and butter sauce really evenly indeed. The whole thing is nicely and not overly seasoned though the crumble topping is very little (3% in fact) and that adds nothing really and just clumped to the middle of the meal to be honest. The butter sauce was light yellow and plentiful and really nice without being greasy but simply rich and creamy and the pink salmon was in quite large chunks and soft and tastes quite simply like salmon should with no bones or skin included at all.
The only issue with this is when you have microwaved it and try to pop it on a plate it does look like gloop however it does taste excellent and I will certainly buy this time and time again in the future with only 324 calories in it and 4.7g of saturated fat it isn't too unhealthy for me considering it has butter sauce in it and is filling enough for me too!
Available in all good supermarkets etc.
Summary: Lovely food and really great quality!
