For the best buys on CDs and vinyl in Glasgow, it pays to avoid the obvious chains, such as Virgin and HMV. Hidden (and not-so-hidden) about the city are numerous independent shops that cater for the price-conscious shopper. Fopp (Union Street and Byers Road): Fopp is an expanding Scottish music chain, whose roots are in the West End of the city, but whose largest store is in a prominent location on Union Street, adjacent to Central Station. Fopp is the place to visit for new copies of classic records (from the mid-nineties backwatds), as well as new releases, which often retail for a mere £10.
