Spillers RecordsNewest Review: ... of the shop is a long sweeping store counter. Behind the counter you have friendly staff that between them seem to be knowledgeable of all music genres. Which is handy as the store covers all types of music from obscure punk, jazz, dance, Welsh Music right through to the top ten chart CD's. In the seventies, before the advent of CD, this counter was full of seven inch record trays. I spent ... more |

Being a fan of music, I thought I'd write a quick review of a record shop that I have bought most of my Cd's and Vinyl from since the late seventies; Spillers Records. Spillers Records is a small record shop that is located in the Hayes area of Cardiff. Spillers claims to the oldest record shop in the world. The store was founded by Henry Spiller in 1894. The store, which was then located in Queens Arcade Cardiff sold and repaired old wax disc machines and phonographs. Spillers is the most well known Record Shop in Cardiff, named the oldest record shop in the u.k., opened since the 19century. It's situated in the Hayes in Cardiff, which is out of the main shopping area in Cardiff of Queen Street, but is located in a good place for people arriving by train and there's even a small bus station nearby. There are too many good things about this shop to mention but as soon as you walk through the door you get a good vibe. Spillers Records is one of the oldest running shops in Cardiff at the moment. It is a very small record shop which does actually stock a lot of items. The shop is situated in the Hayes and is only about a 5 minute walk from the bus and train station. You cannot miss the shop really as it is situation next to a few pubs and also has a dark brown front. The reason that this shop has last so long is for a number of reasons. One of the main ones is that it is very cheap. Chart CDs can be found for about £9.99. They are also quite cheap on non chart cds. Their selection of albums is very good. They don't actually have the items on display. They have ... Read the complete review

If your looking for that old record / CD you once owned. Then the place to go in Cardiff is Spillers Records. Situated in the Hays area of Cardiff near Toys r us this rather tatty looking shop holds very large collection of old / new records / CD's, If they don't have it, they will do their upmost to get hold of what you are looking for. The staff are all clued up on music and seem to know about any band/group you care to mention. I was really happy when they got hold of an old record that I had been looking for. It took 2 years of searching, to no avail. until I was told about this shop. Well recomended visting. ... Read the complete review
