Good range of stores in chester to buy Video games from

Chester is a great place for video game shops, there are so many to choose from and they are all spaced out through the town so you are never far away from one.

The Market - Chester Market has a store right at the back ( hard to find unless you walk to the back off the market and it's right in the corner, they usually sell games at really good prices but they don't offer much for trade in's but you can swap a game for another game without any additional cost, the man who works there is always helpful when am looking for a certain video games and some times he also has some rare games in you can't find anywhere, there is also another store in Chester market a little easier to find because it is located nearer to the entrance but unlike the earlier store i mentioned games can be expensive and there are less to choose from.

Gamezone - this is a pretty decent place to get retro games from, they have a great stock of nintendo 64, sega, dreamcast, and gameboy games as well as a good stock off retro systems, they were selling the old atari there when i was last in, if your looking for newer games though i would avoid going in here because prices can be high.

Gamestation - I have done a review on gamestation and like i said in that review, there is no where better for cheap pre owned games you can get some great bargains here and like gamezone they have a mass stock of retro systems. the trade in cash price is better then what you get anywhere else, they have a sales on a lot of new games so usually anywhere else you could pay up to £40 for them at gamestation you can get them for as cheap as £25

Game - Never really been a big fan of Game, the prices on pre owned and brand new games are far to high at times, you can get the odd bargain here mainly on PC games, they have a good range of PC games so if your a PC gamer think your best option is game but for console games it would be best to look elsewhere, Game is also a good place to come after christmas the boxing day sales here are great i'll give them that.

GAME **** Situated on Foregate Street next door to HMV and Dixons. A few shops away from Virgin also. GAME is the shop that I frequent most; the selection of games that they sell is good. The prices are also exemplary in my opinion. If for some reason they are selling a game more expensive than another shop they will price match without quibble. Where GAME also gets a lot of praise from me is in the customer service department. The sales assistants all seem very knowledgeable about the products that they are helping to sell. They are also very honest. I am usually hyper critical of all staff that work in shops such as this, so when I give praise it has to be earned and deserved. I will explain why I think they are honest: Once upon a time a year and a half back, I was in the market for getting online and onto the Internet. First port of call was at PCWorld… I know I asked what I got for. The assistant was rude, knew nothing about what he was selling and was only concerned in getting me to buy the most expensive modem that they had on offer. The sales assistants reasoning for this was that as it was expensive it was bound to be better. Not the type of reasoning I would expect from a sales assistant I am afraid. In sharp contrast I then went into GAME. I picked up a Modem costing £69.99 the Sales Assistant told me that it would be better to buy the one that had exactly the same specifications for £49.99. You may think that as a result the shop lost £20, well not quite. You see because of this shop assistants honesty I then went onto becoming a regular customer, purchasing many games from there. A rewarding shopping experience will yield far more repeated custom, than an unrewarding one. – Take note ‘The Dixons Group’ Also of note is that GAME operates a reward card policy whereby you can purchase a card for an outlay of a couple of pounds. This entails
you to discounts on a wide range of products. When you buy products you can also earn points. So far I have made quite a bit of money in vouchers through this scheme. For the following reasons I recommend GAME in Chester, as the best game shop that is in Chester. Returns policy for game is also commendable. They will exchange or refund money on any purchase as long as it is returned within 10 days in its original condition. They also offer a part exchange scheme, for example take in your old games for a discount on newer ones. This only applies to console games though and not for PC ones. Disclaimer: I don’t work for GAME nor have I ever. Nor do I have any relations or friends that work there. 10/10 Virgin Megastore **************** A decent shop that not only sells a wide variety of music at reasonable prices, but also sells computer games. By and large Virgin isn’t as good as GAME for buying computer games. This is not always the case though. Virgin often have special promotions and offers that run. These promotions are typically 2 for the price of 1 on selected computer games. An example of the above is that I purchased the games Serious Sam and Undying; both were selling at £29.99 each at the time. I got them for £29.99 for both. Returns policy: Will generally offer refunds or exchanges provided goods are bought back within a reasonable time period (usually less than 1 week). 8/10 HMV *** HMV is similar to Virgin in almost every aspect. I would say that HMV shouldn’t be dismissed as a viable place to purchase games. They often run offers, at the moment they are running a 3 for £20 offer on a wide variety of budget titles. Returns policy: Same as for the Virgin Megastore. 8/10 WHSmith ******* I wouldn’t recommend WHSmith for games purchases.
Games often sell at full RRP and the selection isn’t the most recent or up to date. Though it is worth checking out on the off chance, usually has older games in that other shops have long since sold. 3/10 MVC *** Similar to WHSmith in many ways. Worth checking out though if you wish to buy a game. For example a few days back they had the game Sacrifice for sale which is available for around £19.99 in most other shops for £7. Not the best choice for games with only a small selection but well worth checking out. With an MVC card you will often be able to purchase newer titles for £1 or so cheaper than other outlets. Though remember GAME will price match anyway. 5/10 Games store at the front of the Chester Market ***************************************** For purchases of 2nd hand Playstation/N64/Dreamcast/Saturn/+ other games and accessories. Not the best selection, nor the most comprehensive. Worth checking out though if you have a Playstation or older system though, as he has games in stock for them usually. As they are 2nd hand they are invariably cheaper than in the shops. 5/10 There are a few other shops in Chester though by and large these other ones, Dixons and Our Price are not worth bothering with as they seldom have decent selections of games in or special offers on. I hope that this opinion is of some use to you if you ever decide to come shopping in Chester. Kev
