Virgin Megastore review

Advantages: Good deals
Virgin Megastores (now called Zavvi in the UK) are an international chain of entertainment retailers started by Sir Richard Branson in London in 1971. They have stores in such countries as Jordan, France, Egypt and America.
They mainly stock entertainment media and technology such as CD's, DVD's, MP3 players and computer games but also stock additional products like magazines, books, calendars and T-shirts. Some of the smaller stores don't have the full selection for sale and you'd have to go to a bigger one for some things.
They always seem to play good music, not really stuff I would listen to a lot but it's alright in moderation. I guess you would call it indie/alternative rock. The store layout is organized, with separate section for games, DVD's and CD's along with mini sections for different platforms and genres, so it's easy to find what you're looking for.
I guess most people know about this negative about Virgin, and it is quite a biggie: the price. They don't seem to have noticed how cheaply you can buy things on-line. Sure they do have some good deals on, like 5 for 30, but to me that's the only time when you should buy from this store. I've seen DVD's that have been out for years and they're still charging full price! Even for vanilla releases they could be charging you a huge amount of money. I don't know whether they just don't want to put down their prices or they're just oblivious to other stores but this lets the store down a lot. For new releases anyway you're better shopping around, off the top of my head Amazon always do much better deals than Virgin.
The staff seem nice enough, never had any problems with them. Of course you can get rude staff anywhere and people can have off days but I guess I'm lucky enough not to have run into anyone like that in Virgin.
Overall a nice store and always worth a browse to see what deals they have on, otherwise save some money and shop somewhere else, 3 stars.
Summary: Worth a browse, but don't buy any new releases there!
