Best place for magazines but the rest is cheaper online (WH Smith)

In today's world, where you can get most things at a better price online than in a shop, there's only one use for WH Smiths (for me). This place is undoubtedly the best magazine shop I have come across. There must be 100 different titles (maybe more) on sale. Over the years I've been into VW mags, DJ mags, film and music mags, Lord of the Rings mags, and they've had them all - it's just phenomenal! Not only that, but they also stock a good range of stationery (it's not cheap, but there are some really nice bits). Upstairs is books and DVDs, with the top releases in front of you as you go up the escalator, but the prices just don't compare to websites like Play.com and others.

The staff: staff are friendly and helpful, and you can always find one lingering around the shop-floor. They're often in their 40s or 50s, and it's nice to have an adult conversation with someone knowledgable in their products, rather than a grunt from a hungover student like in many shops.

Smiths also sells lottery tickets, and have a nice supply of jigsaw puzzles. The DVD range caters for more than just blockbuster demand, and includes a good selection of TV programmes and BBC series. If you're a more discerning viewer, then check out the DVDs at W H Smith.
