Advantages: Not too many to be honest and none that I can think of...

Disadvantages: See review, too many to put here!!

Now I'm afraid to say that I feel that WH Smith will be soon going the same way as Woolworths if they don't buck their ideas up pretty soon.

WH Smith is essentially a stationary store, which sells a range of Newspapers, Magazines, DVDs, Books, CDs, Games and Stationary.

WH Smith was one of the shops when I was a young un and went to town, me and my friends would go in and look at the books and DVDs, back then it always seemed like the cheapest place to go, living in the town of Widnes, where the only Supermarket in the town centre at the time was Morrisons, and there weren't any shops like HMV etc, it did seem cheap.

But now as an adult I have started to realise just how little value for money the shop is. The shop I am reviewing mainly is the Lancaster branch as it's the one I have been in most recently. The shop is very small and has two floors, the main thing is sells is books and magazines, which is silly as their books cost RRP, so around £7 per paperback, which is actually expensive when you can go online to Amazon and buy them for just 1p plus £3 postage and packing.

Then you have their games section; PS3, Wii, xBox games, they sell a limited amount of these games at a very high price, again I can go onto Amazon, or into HMV/Game and buy these games for at least £5 less than I can get them in WH Smith, and well every penny makes a difference these days. They rarely have older games, and only tend to stock the "top 10" games of that month, which isn't much good if your wanting a game which has been out for a while!

The same can be said for their DVD section and music...they don't have a big enough or cheap enough selection to make it worth while looking in there for the things you want. Especially not when there is HMV down the road which has a MASSIVE selection of both for a lot lot cheaper!!!

Their stationary is ok, but again it is expensive for what it is, but this is what they sell the most of in their shops, and I think maybe they should pack in the Games, DVDs and music and just sell stationary and books along with magazines and newspapers, I think they would sell alot more if they did this and lowered their prices a little, as it would get a much better reception from the public.

Its not a shop which I go to much, and I don't intend to, there are much better and cheaper shops with better produce!! :-D

Summary: Not a shop I use, or intend to use...!

I am surprised that they didn't go before Woolies. They were THE place to shop for stationary and books at one time. Alas not anymore. The only bargains seems to be half price chocolate with every purchase.Great review.
