Advantages: Clean and Tidy Stores

Disadvantages: Expensive

WHSmith is a well known high street store which sells Books, CD's, DVD's, Computer games, Magazines, Newspapers, Gifts and Stationary. I remember my mum taking me here to get all my new stuff for school as a child, however, I rarely go in there now unless its for something ive seen specifically advertised for there, or in passing just to pick up my newspaper. Unfortunately for WHSmith there are so many rivals now offering much better prices on their products that in all honesty I am surprised that people still shop here. In addition with CD's and DVD's now available in local supermarkets for a really competitive price as opposed to the full rrp of a product, I am surprised that they haven't gone in the same direction as Woolworths.

I don't have anything against the store itself. I find there stores to be well laid out and they always appear to be organised and tidy. The staff have always seemed helpful in my opinion and I also like the fact that in my local store the staff have a uniform which I always thinks looks a lot more presentable and professional than staff wearing their own clothing. They have a large selection of adult and childrens books both fiction and non-fiction as well as puzzle books and educational resources. I also find their sales to be of quite good value and having recently purchased an acrylic art set for my mother at a reduced price of £5 from £20, I thought that this was very good value and a good item to have available in the sale.

Overall, I think that the store could do with a bit of an overhaul and a reduction in their prices. There are some nice items to be had, but generally anything thats in their store can usually be picked up at half the price in my opinion.
