Disadvantages: Never give up
I thought I should add my halfpenny's worth about this company. Although I've never been a member, and never intend to be, I've had a lot of dealings with them and was less than impressed.
The saga started 3 years ago when we moved house. The previous owner was an elderly lady who apparently was a member of this club. However, she neglected to tell them of her move, despite having recently taken delivery of a number of rather expensive books.
About 6 months after she left I noticed that we'd started receiving her post (obviously her post re-direct had expired). There were a lot of letters from World Books but I marked them "No longer living here" and sent them back. However, they kept coming - so I opened one to get a telephone number.
Imagine my surprise when I realised the letters were threatening legal action for the non-payment of bills.
I phoned their Customer Service and explained that the lady in question had moved and we did not have a forwarding address and could they make a note please. "Fine" said the lady on the other end.
2 weeks later - a letter from their debt collection agency, threatening to take us to court. Another phone call to them, another lady saying fine.
To cut a long story short, it took 8 phone calls, 5 letters and a call from a friendly solicitor to their offices to convince them that I wasn't their customer.
They have stopped sending threatening letters, however, the junk mail from them hasn't stopped!
Is anyone ever free of them?
