I decided to join up nearly 3 years ago they had offer me 6 books at 50p each then all I had to do over the first year was buy 5 more books.
That sounded great to me so I ordered my 6 cheap books and got a free mug, which was good to.
But then the books I had ordered would take weeks to turn up and they kept sending me the editor’s choice books that I didn’t want.
I tried phoning the help line but all I got was a pre-recorded message so I never got to speak to anybody but I did get to order the return labels which cost £ 2.00p per label.
So after sending back these books I wrote to them asking them not to keep sending me these books that I was not ordering but I got no response for them and they kept turning up. I wouldn’t mind but they were all books I would never buy normally. Then one day I got a statement for them saying that I owed nearly £100.00p and that payment was late so I went though my other statements and found that they had not removed the cost of the books I had returned from the statement and were still trying to charge me for them.
So I highlighted the books I had returned and sent them a copy of my latest statement with a letter to explan.but still I heard nothing for them. The next month came and I got more editors choice books and the statements were getting bigger and bigger so I wrote to them and explain and sent them a copy of the prove of return.
In the end they wrote to me and said they would take the books off the statements at last I thought I’m getting somewhere so while they were talking to me I sent them a letter asking them not to send the editors choice books to me but I heard nothing from them after that.
Until 2 months later when more editors choice books turned up I sent them back with a letter but no luck and next month it happened again and they weren’t taking the price of the returned books of the statement either so I wrote to them again a
nd he said that they had not received the books and I would be charged for them until I could prove that I had sent them back.
So I quite happily sent them copies of the return slips and they still said that they had not got them back.
At this point I was very mad to say the least and I had only 1 more book left to buy so I sent the order in and a letter saying that I would pay for the books I had received and no more and that I had bought the 5 books in the first year as agreed and would be closing the account. I also added that if they sent any more editors’ choice books that they would have to come and collect them at their expense. They were not happy at this and tried to say that I owed them nearly £60 for books I had already returned and so I had to start sending them copies of return labels again.
Buy this point I had had it with them and my other half took the matter in to hand and contacted them it took weeks of phoning and sending copies of return labels to them but in the end they worked it out. I then wrote a very strong worded letter to them complaining about my treatment and the service but never heard anything from them. But they still send me mail at my old house and now to my new house and my mother’s house trying to get me to come back. They must be joking I’m glad I’m out of it.
