Although I am not the greatest traveller I usually travel by boat and plane to France a number of times each year. Due to this I can experience sickness and anything to lessen this feeling is welcome. Avomine 25mg tablets are always kept on me just in case I feel sick. Avomine is specially designed to provide upto 24 hours relief from a single dose and can be used from the age of 10 onwards. Although I normally take one tablet before setting off on my journey you can take Avomine for both the treatment and prevention of nausea and sickness. Before writing this review I have also noticed on the packaging that Avomine can be used to treat migraine.
Avomine comes in a 28 tablet box and costs around £4 from most good chemists and supermarkets. I always buy mine from the chemists before I travel if I don't have any left from my last journey. The fact that the tablets can prevent travel sickness for upto 24 hours means that i can take a tablet before travelling and not have to worry about remembering to take any further medication. If I am feeling unwell on my journey I will always take a further tablet to make sure I am not sick.
Although I am no expert these tablets contain the active ingredient Promethazine Theoclate 25mg, which I can imagine being the reason why these tablets work so well. I have tried Kwells travel sickness tablets and Stugeron aswell, neither have had the lasting effects that I experience from the use of Avomine, and so for me they are the best anti-sickness tablet around.
The pack recommends you take one tablet the evening before travel on long journeys, or 1 to 2 hours before for shorter journeys. Personally I just make sure I take one before any length of journey if I feel I may be sick. Everyone is different, so you will soon learn what is effective for you. The tablets have no strong aftertaste at all, and are easy to swollow meaning even those who dislike swollowing tablets will be able to manage them.
These tablets are designed to help prevent sickness and nausea during travel. (i.e. boat trips, long car journeys, plane travel) However, this review is not for their effectiveness regarding simply travel sickness.
I was prescribed these tablets when I was expecting my son last year. Suffering from a rare condition called Hyperemesis which had me vomiting over 20 times a day and unable to keep food/water down, I took one tablet a day to help ease my ailments. I can not emphasise strongly enough that these tablets should NOT be taken during pregnancy unless prescribed by a doctor. There is no evidance to show that they cause harm to the fetus but also no evidance to show that it doesn't. (Although my son came out perfect and healthy.)
When I took these, the nausea feeling didn't subside, but I began vomiting less. They enabled me to eat one small meal a day and keep it down. (Usually in the evening). The best thing I experienced though, was they made me very drowsy which enabled me to sleep for most of my pregnancy. After about a week of taking the tablets I felt like I wasn't going to kill myself - which is always good. BUT I did suffer from some side effects - (please note though, that I did take these tablets regularly for months on end)
- Severe Nightmares
- Racing Heartbeat
They were all worth it though. I was seriously sick. I'm making sure I have these tablets in because I'm terrified of falling pregnant again and my doctor taking 3 weeks to prescribe me these! They honestly saved my life and I'm going to use them for travel sickness because when you take them one off - they only made me drowsy.
Worth every single penny. These are like gold!
