      Soothing solution for contacts wearers

As a contact lens wearer, I often find that my eyes become tired and sore particularly if I've used the computer a lot or if I've spent a long time in an air-conditioned or centrally heated room. A lot of eye drops aren't suitable for contacts wearers or require you to take your contacts out and replace after using the drops which is fiddly and awkward, particularly if I'm at work or out and about. I wanted something that would be fuss-free and leave my eyes feeling refreshed and looking brighter. A quick look around Tesco brought me to these eye drops, which appealed because they were designed for contacts wearers and also because the drops come in individually packaged vials which would be handy to pop into my handbag.

To use the drops, it's simply a case of carefully twisting off the plastic tab, tilting my head back and carefully directing the drops into my eyes. Although the amount in each vial doesn't look like a lot, I often find there's enough in one to do both eyes. Once applied I get an instant cooling sensation and my lenses immediately feel lubricated and looser on my eyeball. The cooling effect wears off pretty quickly - within ten to fifteen minutes - but it generally lasts long enough to soothe and reduce any redness or irritation making my eyes look brighter and less tired. I find that the drops moisturise and lubricate my lenses for a minimum of at least 4 - 5 hours; if I've used these during the day at work I generally find that my eyes won't bother me again for the rest of the day.

With a retail price of anywhere between £5 and £6, these aren't a cheap option and using a bottle of ordinary sterile saline solution would probably relieve eye dryness just as well, but I wouldn't get that immediate cooling and soothing sensation and carrying a bottle of saline can be awkward whereas these are very convenient and easy to use. They're pricy, but recommended if you wear contacts (they're suitable for all types of lenses) and get dry or tired eyes on a regular basis.

I always have some for emergencies!

Before I had my IOL operation, I used to wear daily disposable lenses. I wore them for long hours each day, and my eyes were always itchy in the evenings and my lenses felt uncomfortable and dry. I bought Blink as my optician recommended it as a good product. I bought it from Boots and it was quite expensive at around £5 for a box of 20 mini vials that come individually contained. The vials are plastic and easy to dispose of, they are also squeezy so you can get all the liquid out at your speed.

The liquid isnt a lot in each vial, but because they are so small, they are portable and easy and discreet to just twist the cap off and use without having to worry about a large bottle of drops or looking like there is something wrong with your eyes! Once opened you have to use the whole little vial and I found that one was fine for both eyes and I got a lot of drops and enough moisture in my eyes to make it feel smooth and better for the rest of the day.

Once I got my eyes done, I found that in the weeks following the operation I had slightly scratchy eyes, and so I just used these to help with that. Now almost a year later, I hardly need to use these drops unless I am around pets to which I am allergic as it makes my eyes itchy. The liquid cools down the itchiness in my eyes and I have found that I still carry some around just for emergencies like a day in an air conditioned environment, or on a plane to go on holiday.

I would recommend these to anyone who suffers from itchy and dry eyes, whether you have contacts or not they are just great portable eye drops.

      Good comforting eye drops

Have worn contact lenses for several years and working in an office environment I feel that as the day goes on, my lenses tend to dry out and become less comfortable. This results in me rubbing at my eyes with the result that they become irritated, the lens falls out and j end up with make up all over my face.

Blink eye drops were recommended to me by my optician as being safe to use with contact lenses and being effective at moisturising the eyes in dry environments. The drops can be purchased either in the form of a 30ml bottle, or a pack of individual use vials which contain enough liquid for one dose and can then be discarded.

I found these drops to be very easy to apply. Simply hold your head back and pop one or two drops under the bottom eyelid then, as the name suggests, blink a few times to disperse the liquid over the eye. I find that the effects of this drop last a couple of hours before needing to be reapplied. I now always have a bottle of Blink in my bag.

      Disadvantages

      'blink' and it's instantly better

I'm kind of 'blind as a bat' and I don't really like wearing my glasses as the lenses are a bit like milk bottle bottoms. They are quite heavy too, this is partly my fault though due to the frame that I chose this time, a large geek chic style plastic frame. The weight doesn't bother me really as I've always worn glasses right from being a toddler, it's people knowing how short sighted I really am when they see how thick my lenses are!

So I basically wear my contact lenses five or six days out of seven, and for probably an average of fourteen or fifteen hours a day. The only way that I'm able to wear my contact lenses for such long periods of time though is with the help of these Blink for contacts eye drops. I buy these from Boots, and I buy the box of 20 individual little vials for £4.99.

They do also sell this in a 10ml bottle for £3.99, the bottle is slightly better value for money as the total amount of solution in the 20 vials pack comes to 7ml, but I personally think that the individual vials are much more hygenic. I also think that the individual vials are handier for carrying about with you, I always have a few stashed in my handbag. Boots do occasionally have these on offer, either on '3 for 2', or on 'buy 1 get the second at half price'. Whenever I see them on offer I always stock up. They are currently on offer in Boots as part of the '3 for 2' across healthcare.

The eye drops are suitable for use with all types of contacts lenses; both the gas permeable lenses, and all of the different types of soft contact lenses including the daily disposable contact lenses. I wear a combination of both the monthly disposable contact lenses and the daily disposable contact lenses; I wear the monthly lenses on a day to day basis, and I wear the daily lenses on holiday or for weekends away or nights out for the convenience factor. I use these eye drops with both my monthly disposables and my daily disposables.

I would say that 80% of the time I use these drops is whilst wearing my contact lenses, however I do use these when just wearing my glasses as well, they are not just purely for contact lens wearers only. The eye drops are a very gentle formula and don't sting my eyes at all, either with or without my contact lenses in.

Normally when I wear my contact lenses my eyes can get a little dry and itchy towards the end of the day, sometimes even sooner than this if I'm in an air-conditioned office. When this happens I would just use one of the little vials and pop a couple of drops into each eye which will solve the problem and relubricate my contact lenses and eyes. I would also tend to use these on a night out if my eyes are getting tired, which they seem to do a lot quicker when I wear my contact lenses, again a couple of drops in each eye will refresh and soothe my eyes.

I use these if I have dry or irritated eyes even when not wearing my contact lenses, and find that they are still just as soothing, and still give just as instant relief. I always use these on a long haul flight as I find that flying does leave me with dry itchy eyes, once again a couple of drops will relieve the irritation and put the moisture back into my eyes. These are also handy for if you get a piece of grit or something in your eye to effectively wash it out, in this instance I will use the whole of the vial in the affected eye to flush whatever it is out.

Each vial is a one time use only vial, but to be honest there is only enough solution to use once anyway. Obviously it should go without saying that you shouldn't share the opened vial with anyone else. If you are using these with contact lenses then you use them with your contact lenses in, there's no need to remove your lenses to use the drops. You basically just twist off the plastic top of the vial and then place one to two drops into each eye as required. I always use two drops in each eye, I do always wait a few seconds for the first drop to 'soak in' though, as otherwise I find that the second drop just runs out of my eye if I drop the two drops in both together. This is both a bit of a waste, and bad for my make-up! I also just blink a few times after I've popped each drop in, to help disperse the solution around my eye, and more importantly under my contact lens if I'm wearing my lenses. I find that the soothing effect that I get from these eye drops is really long lasting, and it's very rare that I would use two vials in a day.

I've been using these eye drops for longer than I care to remember, and I have no plans to stop anytime soon. They enable me to wear my contact lenses for much longer than I would be able to otherwise, without them I'd probably only manage around seven to eight hours a day, whereas with them I can comfortably wear my contact lenses for up to fifteen or sixteen hours a day. They are also just perfect in general for dry, irritated or tired eyes at any time, and they really do relieve and freshen up your eyes.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Worsened my case

I have mentioned here on dooyoo on a previous occasion that I suffer from dry eye due to being an over user of contact lenses. It is partly my fault as I tend to leave lenses in for longer than I should really so have suffered from dry eye for quite a while and never really found a product that works on a consistent basis. So I tend to use a bottle and replace it with another brand.

The latest brand I have tried after seeing an online advert for them is Blink. I paid close to a fiver from boots for them but am always willing to pay extra for good quality...is this good quality? Not really. I am very let down by this product and feel I have could have spent the money on cheaper products that would have had a far far superior solution.

In essence, I found that despite the initial soothing they don't last long. Much cheaper brands have the same or a longer lasting effect. This feels simply like the effect of putting a drop of water in your eye. Initial discomfort, following by slight period of moisture then it even makes it more dry after wards.

In fact due to the fact that this kept making my eye worse and worse and even more dry, even itchier which was worrying, I could not make it through the whole bottle which is rare for me as even with products that don't have the desired effect I at least usually make it through the bottle.

I even sought medical advice after using it to see if I had done any damage. Soothing? This was more like torture. Not what I had hoped for. I followed the instructions correctly and yes even though I over wear my contact lenses, not of the many many eye drops I have found have had this type of effect. Whatever it was in Blink that caused me pain I sure will avoid it!

Maybe my experience was a one off but not only did I find that Blink did not work but in essence it caused me pain and discomfort and aggravated my dry eye. Best avoided.

They are worth the money to save you eye pain - but just get laser eye surgery it's less painful!!!!

Blink Contacts Eye Drops 10ml - available for £4.99 at both Boots and Superdrug and around £4.00 on-line

Blink Contacts Eye Drops help to keep your eyes feeling moist while you are wearing contact lens. For me wearing contacts was a really uncomfortable situation to be in, and these drops made it bearable.

These eye drops are specially formulated so that they can be used with contact lens as the name suggests, always read the label before putting drops in your eyes to ensure this is the case. They are also a great help to people who suffer from any kind of allergies.

The drops act to put a moisture film across your eyes which helps them to feel less scratchy, and dry. I find them particularly useful when at work under the harsh air con, or when it is particularly dusty, or there is a high pollen count.

When they are applied they really do offer relief as they instantly cool the eye, and they used to make my eyes feel less tired after I had applied them. They can be used as often as needed - however if you are using them frequently this should be discussed with a doctor, or an optician as there may be a more lasting solution for you.

One or two drops should be put into each eye as needed, as often as required. There is no need to remove your lenses, and you can just blink them through your eye.

      Taken from the on-line source:
Ingredients Sodium Hyaluronate (0.15%), Sodium chloride, Sodium phosphate monobasic, Sodium phosphate dibasic, Distilled water.

      For fresh eyes...every time!

I love my Contact Lenses but what I don't like is the feeling I get when I wear them for excesive periods or when my eyes start to get tired. And in my trade, as a Chef, my eyes are constantly exposed to dry, humid heat, grease and smoke which really doesn't help none.

A friend recommended these to me and told me to look them up on Amazon for a good deal and since then, I have not looked back once! A quick squirt with these eye drops, even with my Lenses still in, instantly refreshes, revitalizes and renews the feeling in my eyes and makes wearing Contact Lenses almost instantly comfortable again!

These eye drops come in packets of 20 ampoules for just £3.32 at the minute which is great because they are individually packeted and so last for quite some time rather than larger bottles of eye solution which, for obvious reasons, begins to deteriorate as soon as they are opened. In each ampoule, you get three or four drops of liquid so even if you spill some, it's not the end of the world and, to start with until you get used to opening these and applying straight to the eye, the chances are fairly high that you are gonna lose the first couple of drops!

I have used larger bottles of solution before but find these ampoules much better value for money because every time you crack one open, you are getting a fresh shot of solution and this really does make a difference on tired and stressed eyes!

I wholeheartedly recommend these and think they are one of the better eye-drop solutions on the market. Certainly they get two thumbs up from me! And that's not just mud in your eye!

      Disadvantages

Great product for tired and dry eyes

      ***Blink eye drops***
Whilst ordering my usual contact lenses on line the other day, I had an opportunity to purchase Blink eye drops in individual doses for just a £1 which was very hard to ignore. I had them before and so I knew what I was buying and therefore I made the purchase. I wear continuous wear lenses and always like to have some eye drops available should my eyes get dry or if they just need refreshing.

      ***Brief product description***
I knew what to expect when the eye drops arrived but for those who haven't seen/used them yet, drops are come in 20 individual plastic ampoules. You get 4 strips of 5 individual ampoules (doses) in a small rectangular box. 5 ampoules in each strip are attached together however they can be separated with minimal effort as and when needed. Each ampoule contains 0.35ml of eye drops just enough for one or two eye drops into each eye (well only if you are aiming is right, I often find myself missing the eye completely). The actual individual dose has two parts - the plastic ampoule with the liquid in it and flat top part, which has a label on it stating amount of liquid in the ampoule and the name of the product. Snapping the top part of the ampoule will open it. After each ampoule has been opened, it cannot be closed again however I do not see anyone wanting to do that as you get just about 4 drops worth in the ampoule.

      ***Using Blink eye drops***
Blink eye drops are available for use with all types of contact lenses this includes disposables. There is no need to remove lenses before using the drops. They are meant to provide relief from dry, tired, irritated eyes as well as sooth them. I am going to here, these drops provide me with great relief when I have tired eyes and can tell that my eyes look refreshed after using them. My usage of those drops is mostly related to dry eyes due to me sleeping with contact lenses, sometimes I can get dry eyes in the morning but this is always easily resolved by applying the drops. As far as I am aware they can be used as often as required.

      ***Why I like them***
I like those eye drops because they come in individual doses. Eye drops that come in one individual bottle have normally expiry date from the day of opening which normally results in wasting the product as I never fully finish the whole bottle. This is simply because I do not use them every day and so Blink eye drops are perfect for me as I can use them whenever I need without worrying about expiry date too much. I always have one ampoule in my purse, yes purse as they are so small they can fit there so I can have it available if I get dry eyes at work.

      ***Availability and price***
As far as I am aware Blink individual ampoule eye drops come in two varieties (soothing and refreshing) and price can depend on which ones you buy. They are widely available now, Boots sells them for about £4.99 and similarly price for Amazon which is not cheap at all however I have seen them on offer before. As mentioned above you only get 20 doses of 0.35ml which is 7ml of eye drops. When you compare it to single bottle eye drops, they are usually sold in bottles of 100 ml for about £3 on average so it is clear what give you most for your money. However, for me they are perfect as I do not use them every day and rather than buying whole bottle and then wasting it, I buy blink which then lasts me longer.

        Disadvantages

A great comfort boost for lens wearers

Many years ago I tried wearing gas-permeable contact lenses and I could not get on with them at all and I was told that I have poor tear production. Contact lenses have moved on a lot since then and I now have daily disposable lenses that I use for high days and holidays. My vision isn't corrected enough to wear them all the time but I do like to have the option of using them occasionally. However my tear product is now even worse than it used to be so I do find that, in some circumstance, I need drops to make my eyes more comfortable.

The problem with many eye drops is they contain preservatives to provide protection from infection when using the bottle multiple times. This is brilliant from a health point of view but the preservatives can be absorbed by the lenses and cause damage. This isn't a huge problem with daily lenses but since the bottle has to be thrown away after a month usually then it is not very cost effective if, like me, you only need to use the product occasionally.

I decided that I would look for a product that would be more suitable and came across the Blink range of single use eye drops. There are various products in the range but the Contacts one immediately caught my eye. At £5 a box these aren't cheap but I bought them at Boots so I did get my Advantage card points as well.

The Blink products are all packaged in white boxes with a circle design that immediately makes you think of an eye. The packs are colour coded and the Blinks contact consists of a blue circle and a green band at the bottom.

The blurb on the box refers to these as soothing eye drop that are specifically formulated for contact lens wearers and will refresh dry, tired eyes. It clearly states that the product is preservative free and the active ingredient is Sodium hyaluronate which is a lubricant. These are suitable for wearers of all types of lenses and they don't have to be removed first.

Upon opening the box I found 4 strips of 5 plastic containers. Each container consists of a small plastic vial with a flat plastic lid. Each vial could be easily snapped away from its neighbour. The vials look almost empty which isn't really surprising since they only contain 0.35ml in each one. The plastic of the vial is clear and soft. The flat top gives the product name and also has the expiry date printed on the back which I think is useful since I often carry one or two loose in the car or my bag and it is nice to know that they are still in date.

To open the vial you simply twist the flat cap and it comes away leaving a small hole in the top of the vial. Putting these in your eye is very simple, I tend to try and put them near to the inside corner of my eye and then blink slowly to disperse them across my eye or I pull down the lower lid and squeeze a drop or two in there being careful not to touch the dropper on to the eye.. Since the vial is small it is easy to hold it over the eye and squeeze gently to remove the drops. I can get about 4 small drops from a vial which means that one will be enough for both eyes. You should throw the container away immediately and not try to keep any solution for later in case it gets contaminated.

As soon as the drops hit my eye I feel a cooling sensation and my eyes start to feel more comfortable. Due to the lack of preservative I do not find that these sting at all when put into my eyes even if they are very sore and red. Once the surface of my eye has been lubricated and my lenses rehydrated my eyes tend to feel comfortable for several more hours. I find them particularly helpful when I am in a lot of air-conditioned places on holiday as the atmosphere seems to dry my lenses very quickly.

Sometimes I have found my lenses to be perfectly comfortable but when I have come to take them out at the end of the day I find they are dry and have stuck fast to my eye. These drops are extremely useful then as I pop them in my eye, blink a few times; wait 2 minutes and then my lenses come out comfortably. It says on the leaflet inside that you can put a couple of drops onto the inside of your lens before inserting it but I never have any discomfort when first wearing mine so I have not bothered.

I have also found these drops to be generally soothing even when not wearing my lenses. I have two cats and unfortunately I do suffer allergies because of them. I am ok unless they scratch me or if I ouch my eyes after stroking them. If I haven't washed my hands and inadvertently touch my eyes I start to get an intense itching which I can't help but rub which just makes matters worse. I have discovered that if I empty the contents of a whole vial straight in to my eye as soon as I realise what I have done I can often prevent my eye swelling up and going red. I think the fluid must wash the allergens out before they take hold and the cooling effect keeps the redness away.

This washing out has also been useful when we have been on holiday and someone has managed to rub their eyes after applying sun cream and we are nowhere near a tap to wash their eyes out.

I have found these really useful to keep at home but I also tend to carry a few with me. There are a couple in the car and some in my handbag. This means that I can always use them quickly. My daughter wears fortnightly lenses so the preservatives in drops are more of an issue for her so these are ideal. She also carries a couple around with her as you never know when you may get something in your eye that will irritate your lenses and these do a great job of washing stuff out of your eye as well as just making them more comfortable.

I would recommend these to anyone who wears contact lenses as they just add that extra comfort when needed. I don't use them every time I have my lenses in but it is nice to know that they are conveniently available when I need them.
