Advantages: Seems to work

Disadvantages: More expensive than Boots, for less Lidocaine

Teething in babies seems to last for ages, and they always seem to be worse at night. We have found that putting teething gel on their gums does seem to help them get back off to sleep. I'm not sure whether it just takes their mind off it though, or whether it really works. Possibly they're just relieved that mummy has stopped shoving a finger in their mouth and left them alone!

Anyway, we use teething gel, so the question is, which one?

Bonjela is £2.50 for 15g.

It is sugar-free, which is probably a good thing with teeth coming through, but probably also means the gel doesn't taste too good.

It can be used from 2 months, every 3 hours.

It contains 0.33% Lidocaine Hydrochloride which is a local anaesthetic.

Now, here's the rub. Boots teething gel is £1.50 for 15g, and contains 0.6% Lidocaine. Twice as much active ingredient for a pound less. It does say 3 months plus - but most babies aren't teething at 2 months, are they?

Summary: Buy the Boots teething gel
