Advantages: Works quickly and lasts
Disadvantages: Taste
I have two young children and therefore have dealt with my fair share of teething, one of the products we have used alot over the last 4 years is Bonjela.
Bonjela can be bought in many places such as supermarkets, chemists and even many of the discount type stores that seem to be popping up all over, a tube contains 15g and costs around £2.50. You need to take care that it is bonjela teething gel that you pick up off the shelf as Bonjela have recently launched products that are only available for over 16's.
Bonjela comes in a blue cardboard box which houses a tube of product which is blue in colour and haqs Bonjela written across it in white. The box states "Bonjela Gel is specially formulated to provide fast, soothing relief from teething. Gently massage a dab of gel onto the gum and within minutes your baby can feel just as relieved as you do" Bonjela is colour free and sugar free which of course is great as you don't want to apply something full of sugar onto the gums where teeth are coming through.
Bonjela contains "Choline salicylate, cetalkonium chloride, ethanol, glycerol, menthol, hypromellose, anise oil, sodium saccharin and water"
To use Bonjela squeeze the tube to releases a small amount onto a clean finhgertip, place your finger into babies mouth (avoiding teeth!) and rub onto the gums, the gel can be reapplied every 3 hours if it is needed. I would suggest squeezing the tube from the bottom as we found one of the tubes had been squeezed so many times in the same place that it split so the porduct ends up escaping out of the sides of the tube.
Bonjela can be used for mouth ulcers aswell as teething and I have myself used this product on a couple of occassions, I would say that the gel isn't exactly nice tasting and I would say that both my children agree as neither one of them was ever keen on it being applied, the taste to me is like aniseed.
The gel is very effective and provides relief for both adult and child, this product really did provide relief for my children when they were teething and it was great when they woke in the middle of the night through pain and would help them to settle back down quickly. I would recommend this product and for all the tube seems relatively small you only use a small amount at a time and so a tube does last quite some time even at the height of teething pain.
Summary: Works a treat
