Advantages: Eases pain and discomfort fast

Disadvantages: Can no longer be used for children

This is another one of my trust old favourites that can always be found in my house. Bonjela is a gel for your mouth that numbs pain. I am quite lucky that when I do rarely get a mouth ulcer, they tend to clear up quickly anyway so I'm not sure how good the product is at curing the ulcer itself, but it's definitely good at easing the pain.

Bonjela is not only for mouth ulcers, both of my daughters had braces and used to get sores in their mouths from these. This worked wonders for this and also, one of them had terrible pain with wisdom teeth coming through which was made much more bearable by this gel. It is also used for sores from wearing dentures.
It has been used for years on teething babies, I used it on mine years ago. However, it is now said to be unsuitable for under 16's due to one of the ingredients. They do however have a seperate teething gel for babies over 2 months.
Also in the range is bonjela cool, bonjela complete plus, I like to stick to the original product though as it's been working for me for as long as I can remember.

The original packaging is a bright blue tube with a white plastic screw off lid, which comes in a blue cardboard box. The writing on the tube is white and lists the ingredients and name of the product.

Tubes are 15g in size and cost about £2.50. Only a pea size amount of the clear gel is needed so a tube lasts a long time if you are only using it for the occasional mouth ulcer. I did go through a lot of it when the girls had their braces but now it hardly gets used.

To apply it you just squeeze a small amount of the gel onto your finger and rub it onto the painful area of the mouth or gums. There is a slightly unpleasant taste from it but you don't notice it for long and the numbing sensation starts within a minute or so. It claims to relieve pain for up to four hours, I wouldn't say I find it effective for as long as this but definitely a couple of hours anyway. Any pain in the mouth is really unpleasant so for the relief this gel provides is excellent. It's a product I have used for as long as I can remember and will continue to do so.

Summary: Good, numbing relief from pain.
