Advantages: works,quick acting,easy to use
Disadvantages: not for under 16's
Bonjela has been around for as long as I can remember. It is an oral treatment used for treating infections in the mouth such as mouth ulcers. It can also be used to treat soreness caused by dentures or orthodontic appliances. It is not recommended for children under the age of 16 as it contains choline salicylate that has been implicated as a possible cause of the rare Reyers syndrome; a condition that affects the brain and liver. There is an alternative Bonjela available for teething babies and young children. Choline salicylate is an anti inflammatory and helps to relive pain.
I sometimes suffer from mouth ulcers and find using Bonjela really helps to relieve the misery they can cause. To apply squeeze a small amount of the gel onto a clean finger. Massage the gel directly onto the ulcer or area to be treated. The gel can be reapplied every 3 hours. The gel has a menthol taste and doesn't sting when applied. It seems to numb the pain and allows me to eat without discomfort. I have only used Bonjela for mouth ulcers so cant comment on how effective it is for other mouth problems.
I always keep a tube of Bonjela in my medicine cupboard as it is easy to use and gives quick pain relief. I also take a tube with me when ever I go on holiday as it is not always available abroad. Bonjela has a 2 year shelf life. It is widely available in this country and a 15 gram tube costs £2.80 in Boots or £2.50 in Tesco.
