Advantages: Quick and effective, lovely taste and smell
Disadvantages: Expensive compared to other brands
It's that stage in Murray's life where we are teething and recently some nights have been hell with nothing able to comfort him. I decided to try a teething gel, even though I found them to be pretty useless with Eilidh. I tried a couple that people recommended to no success. Being stumped at what to do, I suddenly hit on the idea of my old favourite from when I was a child. BONJELA!!! Bonjela is found in a blue box. It is about a 4inch blue box with the words Bonjela in white lower capitals. There is also an upside down sword type thing with a circle round it on the left. For a 15g tube in Tesco cost me £2.28. It is a clear gel. It's smell to me is a sort of menthol anteseptic. You remove the cap from the tube and turn it upside down and pierce the metal covering. I find it easier not to make too big a hole otherwise it oozes out and sometimes the lid gets all bunged up and you are unable to get the lid off. You use about 1/2 a centimetre on a child and about a centimetre on a adult. You can use it on a child who is over 4 months old. It helps teething and I have used it a few times for sore gums and ulcers and have found it to be fast and effective in relieving my pain. For a child you can use this every 3 hours but if the baby has teeth, watch out for getting bitten. No more than 6 applications can be given in a 24 hour period. I used to get this often as a child as I suffered mouth ulcers often. I did play on it a bit as I love the taste of the gel. It's never changed since I was a child apart from the fact that I think the tube is smaller. Murray likes this one too and as soon as he smells it he opens his mouth and allows me in to put it on the area of gum which is bothering him. It is over £1 more than the likes of Calgel, but I definately think
that with Bonjela you get what you pay for. Eilidh doesn't like Bonjela, but it is a case of personal taste. Bonjela is the one Murray uses and lately I have been using it too. The only concern I have is that it contains alcohol. It does say on the box that this product wouldn't suit those who cannot tolerate alcohol, but as long as you don't overdo it you won't get drunk. Mind you the taste is a very addictive one and it makes you want more. The first time I put this on Murray it brought back the memories of pleading with my granny to let me have some and then when she wouldn't let me have it I would make up an excuse to get it like having pain and she always gave in, but then again, maybe that is why I had to go to the dentist so often. If you have a teething baby or mouth ulcers, Bonjela is well recommended from me. It's been going for as long as I can remember. It is also sugar free, which is even better. Try it and you may get some relief or in my case, some sleep!

- 11/04/04 LOL! think you could eat the whole pack and not get drunk :) Could do with some of this myself - have exposed the root of one of my molars. Ouch. Maybe a dentist, too.
Are you free next weekend or the one after? We should really start trying to plan instead of just talking about meeting up :) |

- 11/04/04 I need some of this. I'm cutting a wisdom tooth and it's so painful. I can totally sympathise with little babies! |
