Advantages: Cheap, contain paracetamol, non-drowsy

Disadvantages: None

I have recently been suffering with a very nasty sore throat and blocked, stuffy nose and can't really sleep at night and as my cough sweets are only slightly helping I decided it was time to step things up a bit and get some Lemsip cold and flu tablets.

I popped into Boots on Friday night on my way home from work to find them and imagine my surprise to see that they were £3.99 for 16 tablets when the Boots version of cold and relief tablets were only £1.98 for 16 tablets!!

I'm not one to usually buy the store brand/cheaper product but since this cold may be with me a while I thought this may get expensive! Also I checked the back of the packet for the ingredients etc and saw that they contained exactly the same so decided to give them a try.

The tablets claim to help for relief from the symptoms of colds and flu, including fever, aches & pains and nasal congestion.
These do, like most other cold and flu tablets, contain paracetamol so they are not suitable for everyone, ie if you are pregnant, breast feeding etc, allergic to paracetamol.

The doseage is as follows:
The tablets are for people aged 6 years plus. 6-12 years should take one tablets every four hours and people aged over 12 years should take two tablets every 4 hours. The tablets should not be taken for more than seven days in a row.

I've only taken a few tablets but so far, so good, I'm not feeling excessively drowsy and even though I've got a sore throat still I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

In addition to the tablets, I can also recommend the Boots Cold and Flu relief sachets. I bought the hot blackcurrent flavour, a little sugary but nice to sip throughout the day to also feel like you are helping your symptoms. At £1.99 for a pack of 10 they are considerably cheaper than the Lemsip version for £5.15.

If you are looking for good cold relief at a cheap price then Boots is the store for you

Summary: A cheap alternative to Lemsip that so far is trying to cure my cold!

Medicine own brands are pretty much as good as the real McCoys, especially for viral things like colds. They have a decongestant, a painkiller, and possible an antihistamine, and these are all pretty generic things. Boots are pretty reliable too I think x
