Boots Congestion Relief Capsules
by xxfoxyredxx
Very often I get sinus trouble. Whether its just generally a bunged up painful feeling or because of allergies I've always suffered this way and its miserable and its painful!
I have dabbled in my time with cheap pain relief for this problem and had hit and miss experiences with those remedies so recently when I was in Boots I ... got taking to a lovely Pharmacist about my problem and she suggested these to me and I paid out £4.79 for a box of 24 capsules which I thought was fair enough!
The Packaging:
The caplets come in an oblong box with a picture shown of a face on there and we are clearly told what they are and who they are by and that there are 24 in the box then on the back of the box we are told a bit about the product and dosage advice is given along with the ingredients listed and a couple of warnings and contact details for the manufacturer are clearly stated then inside the box you you get two white plastic blister packs as to which the capsules are easy to pop out of and they are foil backed clearly telling us on there what they are and then there is a leaflet in there as well giving us yet more information about the capsules.
The Capsules:
Round in shape and yellow in colour they are not overly big and basically to me look like run of the mill tablets. The dosage of these should be to take 1 as needed up to 4 times a day for children and adults over the age of 12.
They are easy to swallow with a good drink of water and for me these are quickly effective and with lasting effects for a good 3ish hours which is quite a long time I think of having relief from something like this!
These contain 12mg of Phenylephrine Hydrochloride in each caplet and this is a mediation to help open up the airways basically and allow better bloodflow. I find these get to work on me in about ten minutes flat from the moment I take the one and I feel I can breath more easily, I don't feel so stuffed/bunged up and sometimes my head can feel like it weighs a ton, my thinking gets foggy and I feel headachy and sometimes even lightheaded...this stops all that in there tracks and allows me to breath without having to think about it!
I highly recommend these, they are not a cure for a sinus problem, they just help to control it and I think they are a good quality and highly effective product that really is worth the money and mine are sat in my handbag at all times, especially in this hayfever, odd weather we are having at the moment!
Only available from Boots stores.

Boots Congestion Relief Capsules
by Beccky
Like most people, it seems inevitable that when the cold season comes if those around me get one I don't seem to be able to avoid it. Winter just gone I was unfortunate enough to get a very stuffy cold, my sinuses were very blocked and although not enough to go to the doctor I really needed some relief. I went in a shopping trip to Boots ... to try and buy a few products to ease my cold and blocked nose, these congestion relief tablets were one of the products I purchased.
The capsules are a decongestant to relieve a blocked nose, this can be from a cold or caused by something else such as hay fever or an allergy. 24 capsules cost £4.79 at the moment, this seems to be a reasonable price for such a large packet. The capsules come in a box, and inside there are two blister packs of 12 tablets. They are very easy to pop out, and are yellow in colour so easy to identify or find if you drop. The capsules aren't overly big, and are about the same size as a standard paracetmol tablet.
The dose for adults and children over 12 is 1 capsule up to 4 times a day, if needed. You should swallow the capsule with water. The capsules contain Phenylephrine Hydrochlorise 12mg. The drug works by constricting the nasal blood vessels which decreases blood flow to the sinusoidal vessels, this in turn decreases mucus build-up and allows you to breathe more easily.
I used the capsules over a period of around 3-4 days. I found they did make a noticeable difference to my nasal congestion, around 30 minutes after taking a capsule I noticed that breathing was easier and my nose felt much clearer. The effect lasted around 2-3 hours, and gradually decreased over time. Without these capsules I would have struggled to get such a relief from other products such as menthol sweets and oils.
I would definitely recommend these tablets if you find you are developing a cold or suffered from a blocked nose. They make a noticeable difference and allow you to breath easy again for a few hours. As with all medication there is a list of precautions to read and states that the capsule should not be taken if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, or an over-active thyroid. Please talk to your doctor or a pharmacist if you are unsure if the product is suitable for you. Do not store the capsules above 25degrees celcius and keep out of the sight and reach of children. The box that I bought had a use by date off around 18 months, so they will keep for a while, and my box will last more than one Winter.
4/5 from me. A good decongestant, but I found the effect wore off an hour or so before I could take my next dose, but that can't be helped and others may find they last longer. Definitely one to try if you're blocked up, it can make such a difference and allow you to breathe again! Read the complete review |

Boots Value Health Hayfever & Allergy Relief
by xxfoxyredxx
At the moment in this ever changing weather we appear to be having the one thing I have been stocking up on and taking regularly is hayfever tablets. I have suffered for years now annoying and sometimes very distressing hayfever symptoms so they are something that if I see them cheap and reasonably priced I will pick up a box or two of ... them.
I suffer with being allergic to grass and flowers, even on a cool day and not a sunny one like today I have woken up with very dry itchy eyes, a sore throat, my sinuses feel a bit sore and my eyes are heavy but that isn't so bad cos on a warm sunny day I get hives, can't stop sneezing and can barely see for tears, so on a day like today I am not overly bothered and this is when I can get away with taking cheaper medication like this, for milder symptoms.
The Packaging:
These only cost me 99p for a box of 7 of the tablets and so as you would expect that although the packaging is highly informative it is cheapo looking and screams out they were an economy purchase! The box is square in shape and mainly white and with a bit of red colour o it and on the front of it we are clearly told that they are Value Health Hayfever & Allergy Relief 'Cetirizine Hydrochloride', One - A- Day - 7 Tablets then on the back of the box we are clearly told what they can be used for, dosage advice is given as are the ingredients and warnings given and contact details for the manufacturer are clearly stated. Inside the box I got one white plastic and foil backed tray which is easy to pop the tablet out of and there is a further pamphlet in the box giving us yet more information about the tablets.
Taking Them:
These tablets re really small, white in colour and film coated for ease of swallowing them, but they are really little small oblong shaped tablets these are and need to be taken with a little drink and the maximum dose is one tablet per day of course.
So these can be taken by hayfever sufferers but also children and adults (over 6 years of age) for any other allergy such as pet or house dust mite allergies and not only should help with the usual, more known and expected symptoms of allergies but with the rashes, itching and hives (I get!) as well.
I have to admit that I find these surprisingly good for me. They stop me sneezing and my nose from running, I still sneeze occasionally on a really high pollen count day but not half as much as when I don't take them, they help ease the pain I get in my sinuses and stop my eyes itching quite som much (although again not completely) and they help me all day long too. These don't seem to be able to stop me itching and certainly don't stop my hives however I have medication (cream) from the Doctor for those prescribed and I can use that in conjunction with these if I want to.
Like I have repeated these are ok for me on mild days that I am suffering, on a hot and high pollen count day I take medication prescribed from my Doctor as that's all that seems to work for me anyway but these, on the hop and caught out suddenly were a little lifesaver for me. Not the best allergy relief out there but worth the money, quick and effective to take and cheap enough to try!
Google if interested I bought my pack in Boots recently. Read the complete review |
