Advantages: ideal when used correctly
Disadvantages: gives children the idea that drugs solve problems
As a single parent I know only too well the 'wonders' this 'little helper' can perform. I have personally administered some to my 5 yr old son tonight as he was suffering from a severe sore throat brought on by continous coughing. He is recovering from a heavy cold/flu. The 'purple pleasure' performed it's 'magic' and henry calmed and is now sleeping. I must say that this 'magic medicine' although usefull is used far too much by parents/carers everywhere. Often when children say they are unwell it is a form of attention seeking or an exaggeration of minor discomfort to attract care and sympathy. This 'over-use' of the DRUG is reinforced in the companies recent advertising campain where the peace and quiet of adults is shown whilst describing calpol with the love that should be projected to a child. Hey, I am no fool, I can see how this advertising could be justified but it has an effect where people feel it is 'ok' to dose the kids up at the drop of a hat. After all......if you are a parent.....you will understand !!!!!!
