Calpol I think is over used be many parents we have met over the years . A spoonful of calpol before bed seems to be a ritual in some houses .

OK so it gets baby to sleep , but it is unnatural and "an easy way out" . Another 10 mins spent nursing baby and a drink of milk generally does the same job and no chemicals are involved .

YES calpol is a infant chemical suspension which contains paracetamol . It's "proper" use is to relieve pain and fever(temperature)
in babies and infants .

It is a drug and should only be used to relieve the symptoms above not to get baby to sleep .

Calpol has a strawberry flavour and is easy for babies to swallow . And comes with a double ended spoon ( 5ml ) + (2.5ml)

It also says in the information sheet that children who take paracetamol frequently may be more prone to infections such as colds and fatigue and is not suitable to those who are sugar intolerance.
---------------------------------------------
CHEMICALS IN CALPOL :

Each 5ml contains 120mg of paracetamol P Eur
Sucrose (sugar )
Glycerol
Sorbitol
Methyl hydroxybenozate
Xanthan gum
srawberry flavouring
carmoisine ( E122)
---------------------------------------------

So before you give your tots calpol check their temperature and decided whether a cuddle would be more benefical , and if in doubt consult your doctor .

Good opinion andrew_cake. I wouldn't be without my Calpol but I agree that a lot of people use it too willy nilly. We only give it as a last resort if cuddles, milk etc do not work.
