My doctor recently told me I had thrush - I say recently, it was about six months ago now. I went to see him with soreness and itchiness and lots of red and flaky patches around the tip of my penis area. I had an idea it might be thrush as my other half had also suffered from the same thing and had been prescribed Canesten Cream.
My doctor told me that he recommended I use Canesten Cream but that it would be actually cheaper for me to buy it over the counter. I did this the same day and bought it from Tesco pharmacy in a white 30g tube. I used it straight away as directed by the doctor and he told me to keep using it for a few days even after I thought the infection had gone away.
I won't go into detail about how / where I applied it but I will say that I felt an almost immediate relief from the intense itch and burn I had been experiencing within about four hours of using it. I kept it in the fridge and applied as directed and it felt very soothing and calming and my penis immediately felt relieved and not at all angry and inflamed as it had been for the previous few days.
It contains a hydrocortisone and if you use this too much I am aware that it can thin the skin so it is important to just use a small amount, wash your hands both before and after use and use as directed and to the letter.
I would definitely recomend this for thrush but do check with your octor beforehand even if you have the same symptoms as I did as it may not be thrush and it is best not to self medicate.

==What its for==
Well as the name says the cream is for thrush, thrush can apparently occur in the mouth or vaginal, but obviously the cream is for the woman's private parts.
Thrush is basically Most a common yeast infection. Which causes itching, irritation and swelling of the vagina and surrounding area, sometimes with a creamy white cottage cheese-like discharge. This is not really painful, its mainly uncomfortable and can be quite embarrassing if you start to itch when your in public loll.
I have only had this once before and that was a long time ago, I did feel really embarrassed about going to the doctors about it, although I did request for a female doctor. After she examined me she diagnosed it as thrush, I was pretty taken aback as I did get a shower everyday, so felt I should not get an infection down there. She did reassure me though that I could get any amount of showers a day but still get thrush. So don't be embarrassed if you do have to go as it is the most common infection for women down below.
==How to use the cream==
To use the cream you just squirt about half a finger full of the cream and gently rub it into the infected area. Make sure you do rub it all over the infected area for the cream to get rid of it all.
==Does it work==
Yes it did for me, after 2-3 days of using the cream all my symptoms disappeared and I have never had it back since, although it can come back again in some people. I did carry on using the cream though until I had run out of cream just to be sure that it had all gone.
==My overall opinion==
This cream did work for me although they do other things too now, they have tablets and I think other things. I have not mentioned a price on my review as I got this on prescription from my doctor and did not pay for them at the time, so I can not say how much this costs.
The cream did work for me, however I did only seem to have mild symptoms so can not say if it works as well with more sever symptoms. The cream is easy to apply and it works in a matter of days. This is one I would use again should I ever need to. I will give this 5 stars as it does clear it up and in fast time too.
A lot of women get thrush. Unfortunately there is a quite a big taboo and people get embrassed to talk about it. If everyone just opened up, everyone would realise everyone else got it and then people would be less ashamed! Thrush is a yeast infection caused by a naturally occuring bacteria, and sometimes the bodies internal balance can get out of control and too much yeast ot be produced. There are various 'natural remdies' which are thought to minimise this but I have tried lots of them and they do not seem to work for me. I have tried lots of thrush remedies, a lot of which are good for different things and are therefore good in combination.
Canesten cream is for the external effects of thrush. This is not to be used internally. The cream comes firstly in a cardboard box with paper instructions (a bonus- as 100% recyclable). In the box is a soft metal tube. It has a white plastic screw on and off lid. The metal tube is easy to squeeze to get the cream out. The cream is qite paste like. It has a mild smell, which is neither bad or good.
You only need to apply a tiny amount to have an effect. I often end up squeezing out more than I need to, but guesses will become better with practise. The idea is to rub the cream several times a dya into the sore itchy areas. I find that I see improvement after a day or two, but if I stop using it straight away then they can come back so I always try to be a bit more persistant with my application. If the symptoms have not disappeared within a few days then I always take a trip to my doctor as something a bit more serious (antibiotics) can be needed. So please do not suffer in silence.
Applying this is much less traumatic than the pessery, but does take more time and has to be done more than once.
Please do nto take my word for anything, this is just my personal opinion, as always with medical conditions please consult a doctor / pharmacist and read the instructions very carefully.
Cream to treat Sweat rash / Trapped perspiration can sometimes upset the natural balance of the skin allowing candida to cause an irritating, itchy and often unsightly red rash.
