Clarityn Allergy Syrup is designed for the treatment of hayfever and other allergies. It contains loratadine in a syrup.

There are many hayfever treatments available in tablet form but if, like me, you find that tablets upset your stomach, this is an excellent alternative.

It is also very good if you have children who don't like taking tablets but will quite happily take this sweet tasting syrup.

This product is suitable for adults and children over two years of age and the dose needs to be adjusted according to the child's age.

Just one caution here, if your two year old weighs less than 30kgs this is not a suitable treatment. Clear instructions are given on the label.

My main hayfever symptoms are itchy eyes, sneezing, coughing and runny nose. Clarityn Syrup stops all of these. This product doesn't cause drowsiness so it is okay to take if you are working, )(although, if you drive or operate machinery you should find out how it affects you first because products like this can affect some people, but not others).

Clarityn should not be taken during pregnancy without consulting a doctor and anyone with very severe symptoms that persist should also seek medical advice.

Clarityn syrup comes in a 100ml bottle and costs around £4.99 a bottle from pharmacies. The recommended dose for an adult is two 5mils teaspoons per day, so that's 10 days supply for £4.99. In comparison with tablets this works out very expensive.

I have tried other syrups to treat hayfever but both Zirtek and the Cetrizine which I got on prescription from my doctor caused quite severe drowsiness. The Cetrizine also gave me stomach pain and headache.

Hayfever sufferers need to experiment and find out what works best for them. Everyone differs when it comes to these products.

I would, however, recommend Clarityn Syrup as the first one you should try if you have used these syrups before because it was the only one I had no problems with.

Summary: Useful product for children, or those who don't like taking tablets.
