Advantages: Handy Size, easy to use

Disadvantages: Doesnt work as well as i would of hoped

At the beginning of the year i started to suffer from a sore throat which was with me for what seemed like a lifetime. During the day it didnt seem to bother me too much but by the time my head hit the pillow at bedtime the irritating cough started. This went on for a few days and i was slowly becoming more and more tired. I had the usual cough sweets and medicines in but nothing seemed to be working. Then i had a thought, the last time i was in a similar situation i bought some anaesthetic throat spray which was the only thing that got me through the night.

The next morning, all red eyed and not bushy tailed i went to the chemist at our local supermarket and asked the pharmacy for something to numb the pain (dramatic i know) i told her i wanted some kind of spray that relieves sore throats. This was when she handed me Difflam Spray, it cost me about £6 but in all fairness if it was going to do the trick and let me sleep i would have gladly paid more.

I'm extremely impatient so i had the box open and the spray ready to go by the time i got in the car. I read the instructions while already spraying in the problem areas. The cannister is a little green thing with a white nozzle that can be folded down for easy storage. It holds 30ml and contains Benzydamine Hydrochloride.

The instructions say that an adult should have 4 - 8 puffs every 1.5 to 3 hours. Children aged 6 - 12 should have 4 puffs 1.5 to 3 hours. And children under 6 should have 1 puff each for every 4kg of body weight up to a maximum of 4 puffs every 1.5 to 3 hours.

I used the maximum 8 puffs everytime and i wasnt particulary impressed. I've previously used Ultra Chloraseptic spray which numbed your throat within seconds. The Difflam spray didnt seem to have much effect on me at all. I used it before going to bed and did manage to fall asleep but was awake again coughing within half an hour. So i ended up back in front of the tv with a hot drink.

It did turn out that i had a viral infection so that may have been why it didnt really work for me, although i did think i would get some relief from it. I wont be buying it again as i think the Ultra Chloraseptic Spray works much better.

Summary: Not for me i'm afraid
