Diocalm Ultra Capsules
Advantages: good price
Disadvantages: don't work quick enough
Over the weekend, I had a bit of an upset stomach, whether it was something I ate or plain exhaustion, I am still not sure of but one thing I do know is that I wanted it gone fast. I went to the pharmacy to see what I could find and Immodium were quite pricey in comparison to there Diocalm Ultra capsules which are not a brand I had heard of before. They pretty much do the same as Immodium but just looked like a much cheaper version of them. I decided to buy these and give them a go just praying that they would take action quick.
The packaging on these is really nothing special and it is very basic. There is not logo it is just simply a flat rectangular shape blue box with the words Diocalm Ultra on the front and stating that it contains 6 capsules. The box also says that these capsules 'Stop Diarrhoea fast' and inside the box they come with a leaflet which goes into a lot more detail if you have illness already. The reverse contains warnings, ingredients and directions of use so it literally contains everything that you need to know before taking these.
These capsules should not be taken if you are under twelve years old and the dose should not be exceeded. If symptoms continue for over 24 hours then you should see a doctor and don't take these capsules if you have impaired liver function or if you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome. The medicine should be discussed with a doctor first of all if you are pregnant, breast feeding or for more information you can look to the leaflet.
So, to begin with these capsules are just yellow and half orange and they are not too big, just your average capsule. They should be taken two at a time followed by one capsule after each further episode of diarrhoea which should be a maximum of six capsules in a 24 hour period. I took two of these and I really hoped I wouldn't have to take anymore of these if they were any good. I took my two capsules and swallowed them down with a glass of water which was easy enough to do.
I waited patiently for a few hours and my stomach still didn't seem the best, I thought they would have worked a lot quicker. I still felt really ill and it wasn't really until I was at the end of the day around evening, having taken these first thing in the morning that I really felt these start to work. Being capsules, I thought they would take action fast but I didn't attempt all day to take anymore as I wanted to be patient but it didn't really clear my diarrhoea until the next day properly.
I still don't know to this day whether it was me eating better food or whether it was these capsules that fully cured my illness. I think if you do want these to clear your diarrhoea, don't wait around just take another capsule if after about four hours you still do not feel any better. I felt good the next day and didn't take anymore of these as my diarrhoea had cleared up but if you don't want to feel awful at work all day after eating something dodgy then these are not your best fix.
I gave these a try but I still feel Immodium are a much better brand. Whenever I have had diarrhoea, Immodium acts fast and normally within one hour which is just what you need especially at work, you don't want your stomach making funny noises. This is ok if you have a weekend off and want to be patient and wait for these but sometimes it really is worth paying that bit more for fast acting medicine where you know the results are trustworthy and reliable and sadle I don't think Diocalm was that great.
You can buy Diocalm capsules in Superdrug where a box of six capsules costs you £1.29 which isn't too expensive really. Semichem the Scottish retailer sell a box of these for £1 which is a good price to pay.
