Thick, heavy cream for eczema
Member Name: elyphant
Advantages: Works well to control eczema, useful pump dispenser
Disadvantages: Time-consuming to apply (but worth it for the effects)
My eldest suffers from eczema and for a long time has used Diprobase cream, as prescribed by the doctor.
This is a very thick, heavy moisturising cream designed specifically for eczema and other similar conditions. It is really a medical rather than a beauty product, so you get functional packaging rather than style. My son usually gets a big bottle which comes in a pump dispenser. This is actually very handy, as you get a decent amount in each pump, and it is easy to dispense more if you already have some cream on your hands.
The cream is thick and white and doesn't have a particularly noticeable odour. You really can apply it copiously and as often as you like (the more the better I think), but do make sure you have time as it can take quite a while to apply and get it to soak into the skin. By the way, if you do have eczema I would suggest getting a bit of advice on the best way to apply it - we were told not to really rub it in but to smooth it in in the direction of hair growth. I think this is because other wise it can block pores, but I can't really remember now.
I find the cream works really well. My son doesn't like to use it as often as he should (he complains that it's cold on his skin!) but when I do persuade him, if he uses it regularly for a few days it really does calm down the eczema a lot. I'm sure if he used it daily he would have a lot less flare-ups, but what can you do!
By the way, we get this on prescription, but I imagine it is a little expensive otherwise, as many of these products often are.
We have another in the family with milder eczema and they use Doublebase, which is is a similar product but has a lighter texture. My eldest has also used this sometimes and does like it too, so also worth looking at - I will see if it is on dooyoo and review it in a minute!
Overall I'm giving this 4 stars - it is really effective but does need that extra time and work to apply. Not a problem with it, as that is really how it is supposed to be, but just an indication of how it works for us. Still recommended though.
Summary: Great for eczema sufferers
