Advantages: Does the job, what more can I say!
Disadvantages: Not cheap, look a bit too much like sweets
I should warn you that this review may contain 'TMI' (too much information), as it is a review of a laxative there's no way to write it without any mention of, you know, number twos, so my apologies in advance!
I recently found myself in need of a little help in the digestive area, I'd had food poisoning and then found myself unable to 'go' for a few days afterwards when I normally have no trouble. I only picked Dulcolax as it was the only laxative available at the convenience store near my house. It was quite expensive but I expect you could get a better price at a supermarket or at Boots.
I took two tablets as I went to bed, the tablets are very small and easy to swallow, but being so small its quite easy to drop one and lose sight of it, not great if you've got pets or small children especially as the tablets are bright yellow and have a coating that makes them look a bit like tiny smarties. I'd be extra careful about keeping these out of reach.
As promised, my problem was resolved the next morning. I woke up with a slight cramping pain in my abdomen and needing to get to the bathroom rather quickly. The pain disappeared as soon as I'd paid my visit and wasn't severe anyway, just a good warning!
I don't think I needed to take two, I probably could have got away with one, so if you're taking them yourself start slow and just try the one at first. I didn't have any adverse effects from taking two but why waste them and why put extra amounts of a drug in your body if you don't have to?
Remember to read the leaflet enclosed as you would with any drug, and especially bear in mind that over the counter laxatives are only supposed to solve short term, one off problems. If you need to take them constantly or very frequently, get to the doctor!
Summary: Effective, slight discomfort caused but only very short term.
